Wrestlers In Tournament Action

As the end of the regular season hit last week, the Blue Jay wrestlers were in tournament action. The varsity boys were at the East-West Tournament in New Salem on Friday, Jan. 31 and Saturday, Feb. 1. The girls and junior varsity boys were at the 4 Bears Invitational hosted by the Blue Jays on Saturday, Feb. 2
East-West Tournament
Long looked at as featuring some of the best wrestlers in the state and a preview of the State Tournament, the Blue Jay boys’ wrestlers were at the East-West Tournament in New Salem on Friday, Jan. 31 and Saturday, Feb. 1.
Lisbon took home the team title with 153.5 points, followed by Velva with 125, New Salem-Almont with 122, Oakes with 97 and Northern Lights rounding out the top five with 96.5. The Blue Jays finished tied for tenth with 81.5 points.
Individual results for the Blue Jays were as follows:
At 107 pounds, Chase Brown lots his first match on a 16-0 tech fall to Chase Becher of New Salem-Almont and then lost his second match on a 16-0 tech fall to Braden Brossart of Rugby to end his tournament action.
At 114 pounds, Louden Haugen won his first match by fall at 3:52 over Tyler Fitch of Hettinger-Scranton. He then medically forfeited his next two matches to Ben Wagner of Oakes and Jayden Kuntz of Killdeer to end his tournament.
At 121 pounds, Regan Gustafson lost his preliminary match on a 25-9 tech fall to Cameron Benson of Killdeer and his next match on a 9-8 decision to Greyson Lyons of Lisbon to end his tournament action.
At 127 pounds, Cohen Bell placed third. He won his first round match on a 15-3 major decision over Westen Baumgartner of Napoleon and his quarterfinal match on a 15-0 tech fall over Connor Melin of Kenmare/Bowbells/Burke Central. In semifinals, he lost on a 4-1 decision to Noah Anderson of Lisbon. He came back in the consolation semifinal to win on a 16-1 tech fall over Lucas Soli of Velva. In the third place match, he won on a 7-1 decision over Riley Hasbrouck of Hettinger-Scranton to take third.
At 133 pounds, Brayden Fritel lost his first round match by fall at :27 to Cutter Ouradnik of Bowman County. He came back to win his next match on a 19-3 tech fall over Andre Van Eeden of Lamoure, but lost this next match on an 11-0 major decision to Choutae Gerhardt of New Salem-Almont to end his tournament action.
At 146 pounds, Kane Reep lost his first match on a 16-0 tech fall to Braelyn Herman of Northern Lights. He had a bye in the next round, but lost his next match by fall at :49 to Colton Becher of New Salem-Almont to end his tournament action.
At 152 pounds, Colter Fladeland lost his first round match on a 10-5 decision to Bailey Zachmeier of Rugby and his next match on a 5-2 decision to Logan Feist of Napoleon to end his tournament action.
At 160 pounds, Gage Mudderman lost his first round match by fall at 1:52 to Eli Lyons of Lisbon and his next match by fall at 3:58 to Stone Stadheim of Hettinger-Scranton to end his tournament action.
At 189 pounds, Trey Bohmbach placed second. He won his first round match by fall at 1:19 over Clayton Heins of New Salem-Almont. In quarterfinals, he won by fall at 2:36 over Carter Ptacek of Oakes and followed that up with a 6-0 decision win over Brayden Chenault of Hillsboro-Central Valley in semifinals. In finals, he lost on a 5-0 decision to Cole Henderson of Northern Lights to take second.
At 215 pounds, Griffin Wilhelmi placed second. He won his first round match by fall at 1:51 over Bryce Stewart of Rugby. In quarterfinals, he won by fall at 3:40 over Brennin Thuesen of Williams County and then won by fall at 2:21 over Andre Doll of Napoleon in semifinals. In the championship match, he lost by fall at :52 to Ivan Carruth of Ellendale-Edgeley-Kulm.
At 285 pounds, Levi Uran placed sixth. He won his first round match by fall at :49 over Trygg Joki of Beulah-Hazen. In quarterfinals he lost by fall at 3:13 to Matthew Jacobs of Williams County. He came back in the next round to win by fall at :53 over Riley Collins of Rugby and followed that up with a 10-5 decision win over Delaney Feldman of Kenmare/Bowbells/Burke Central. In the consolation semifinal he lost by fall at :41 to Seth Irey of Ellendale-Edgeley-Kulm. In the fifth place match, he lost by fall at 1:50 to Brett Tastad of Northern Lights to take sixth place.
4 Bears Invitational
The Blue Jays hosted the 4 Bears Invitational on Saturday, Feb. 1 at the 4 Bears Event Center in New Town. 
In the girls’ division, Dickinson took home first place as a team with a score of 215.5, followed by Williston with 105.5, Williams County with 96.5, Kenmare/Bowbells/Burke County with 74, and Watford City rounding out the top five with 64.5. The Blue Jays finished in seventh with 56 team points.
At 100 pounds, River DeTienne won her first round match by fall at 3:31 over Addi Peterson of KBBC. She lost her quarterfinal match by fall at 1:00 to Maci Brouillette of Williston. She came back to win her next match by fall at 3:26 over Abrianna Henderson of Williston. She lost her next match by fall at 1:03 to Sari Sorenson of Watford City to end her tournament action.
At 106 pounds, Kimber Fritel placed second. She won her first round match by fall at 1:50 over Lucia Cheverie of Dickinson and followed that up with a win by fall at :31 over Molly Danks of Stanley. She lost her next match on an 18-3 tech fall to Taley Michel of KBBC. In the final round, she won by medical forfeit over Aubrey Sorenson of Watford City to place second.
At 106 pounds, Molly Danks placed fifth. She lost her first match on a 19-2 tech fall to Aubrey Sorenson of Watford City and her next match on a 15-0 tech fall to Taley Michel of KBBC. She lost her next match by fall at :31 to Kimber Fritel of Stanley and her final match by fall at :53 to Lucia Cheverie of Dickinson to place fifth.
At 112 pounds, Ava Wade lost her first match by fall at :55 to Taylor Brouillette of Williston and her next match by fall at 1:11 to Zoey Wagoner of Watford City to end her tournament action.
At 118 pounds, Aubree Bunner placed second. After a first round bye, she won her semifinal match by fall at 4:44 over Kaytilane Isom of Williston. In the championship match, she lost by fall at 1:15 to Aryana Loran of Dickinson to take second.
At 136 pounds, Amanda Aguilar placed fifth. She lost her quarterfinal match by fall at 2:53 to Janessa Nelson of Williston, but came back in the next round to win by fall at :31 over Ashlynn Swanson of Williston. She lost the consolation semifinal by fall at 3:03 to Elise Schilling. In the fifth place match, she won on a 14-7 decision over Janessa Nelson of Williston to take fifth.
At 136 pounds, McKenna Jones placed second. She won her quarterfinal match by fall at 1:38 over Ashlynn Swanson of Williston and her semifinal match on a 12-2 major decision over Janessa Nelson of Williston. In the championship match, she lost by fall at 3:05 to Christina Dohrmann of Dickinson to take second.
At 148 pounds, Inaani Wilson lost her quarterfinal match by fall at 1:53 to Jazmine Lindberg of Williams County and her next match by fall at 1:16 to Makinley Lazorenko of Killdeer to end her tournament action.
In the junior varsity boys’ division, team totals were not available. Individual results for the Blue Jays were as follows:
