Wrestlers In Tournament Action
It was a busy weekend for the Blue Jay wrestlers. The varsity boys were in action at the Linton Holiday Tournament on Friday, Dec. 20 and Saturday, Dec. 21. The girls were in action at the Border Brawl on Saturday, Dec. 21. The sixth grade and junior high wrestlers were at the Middle School State Tournament in Minot on Saturday, Dec. 21.
Linton Holiday Tournament
At the Linton Holiday Tournament on Friday, Dec. 20 and Saturday, Dec. 21, Velva took home first place as a team with 216.5 points, followed by South Border with 199.5, Williams County with 182, Oakes with 177 and Northern Lights with 163 rounding out the top five. Stanley finished in 18th with 69.5 team points.
Individual results for the Blue Jays were as follows:
At 121 pounds, Louden Haugen placed seventh. He won his first round match on a 19-2 tech fall over Easton Haaland of Beulah-Hazen and his next match by fall at 5:23 over Hauser Bridwell of Linton-HMB. In quarterfinals, he lost on a 16-1 tech fall to Hayes Weinberger of New Salem-Almont. He came back in the next round to win on a 24-10 major decision over Jaren Nelson of Oakes and then lost in the next round by fall at 1:06 to Jared Schilling of South Border. In the seventh place match, he won on an 18-0 tech fall over Cameron Benson of Killdeer.
At 127 pounds, Cohen Bell placed first. After a first round bye, he won his next match on a 16-0 tech fall over Paul Melin of Kenmare-Bowbells. He won his quarterfinal match on a 20-3 tech fall over Riley Hasbrouck of Hettinger and his semifinal match on a 7-5 decision over Logan Potts of LaMoure. In the championship match he won on a 3-0 sudden victory overtime score over Bode Henderson of Northern Lights.
At 133 pounds, Brayden Fritel placed seventh. He had a bye in the first round and then lost by fall at 5:18 to Gage Holter of Kenmare-Bowbells. After a bye in the next two rounds, he won on an 11-4 decision over Cameron Kittelson of Kindred. He lost his next match on a 7-3 decision to Liam Lepp of South Border. In the seven place match, he won on a 5-3 decision over Joseph Potts of LaMoure.
At 152 pounds, Kane Reep lost his first match by fall at 5:28 to Braelyn Herman of Northern Lights. After a bye in the next round, he lost on a 15-0 tech fall to Lucas Weidner of Beulah-Hazen to end his tournament action.
At 160 pounds, Colter Fladeland won his first match on a 19-4 tech fall over Matthew Franciere of New Salem-Almont, but lost his next match by fall at 1:05 to Rylend Whetzel of Harvey. After a bye in the next round, he lost his next match on a 14-5 major decision to Joseph Keller of South Border to end his tournament action.
At 285 pounds, Levi Uran placed ninth. After a first round bye, he lost his next match by fall at 3:52 to Matthew Jacobs of Williams County. He had a bye in the next round and then won his next match by fall at 1:13 over Charles Jorgensen of Carrington. He lost his next match on a 6-1 decision to Max Cline of Oakes, but came back to win his next match by fall at :37 over Aidan Bertsch of South Border. In the ninth place match, he won by fall at 2:59 over Seth Irey of Ellendale-Edgeley-Kulm.
Girls Border Brawl
At the Border Brawl in Ashley on Saturday, Dec. 21, Dickinson took home first place as a team with 199 points, followed by Minot with 169.5, South Border with 120, Lisbon with 104.5 and Bismarck Century rounding out the top five with 99. Stanley finished in 24th with 9 team points.

At 112 pounds, Kimber Fritel lost her first match by fall at 1:27 to Violette Sola of Velva and her second match by fall at 3:42 to Chloie Collins of Bismarck to end her tournament action.
At 130 pounds, McKenna Jones had a bye in the first round. She lost her quarterfinal match by fall at :56 to Alexis Schneider of Napoleon G-S and her next match by fall at 5:12 to Lydia Wolf of South Border to end her tournament action.
In the 170B weight class, Alyssa Quesada placed sixth. After a first round bye, she won her quarterfinal match by fall at 1:21 over Elexius Goodhouse of Standing Rock. She lost her semifinal match by fall at :21 to Nevaeh Sorensen of Carrington and her consolation semifinal by fall at :18 to Callee Leingang of Bismarck Century. In the first place match, she lost by fall at 1:17 to Reagen Kuhn of Napoleon G-S to take sixth place.
Middle School State Tournament
At the middle school state tournament in Minot on Saturday, Dec. 21, Mandan took home the team title with 195 points, followed by Carrington with 181, New Salem with 167, Stanley with 147 and Velva rounding out the top five with 137.

In the 6th grade 100 pound class, Cooper Skarsgard placed second. He won his first match by fall at 1:43 over Bridger Vauthier of Williston and followed that up with a quarterfinal win on a 6-5 decision over Brycen Hansen of DLB. He won his semifinal match on a 15-0 tech fall over Drew Becker of St. Mary’s. In the championship match, he lost on a 12-0 major decision to Levi Gedda of Watford City to take second.
In the 6th grade 105 class, Kingston Perdue placed third. He lost his first round match by fall at :41 to Dallas Rittenbach of Minot and his second match by fall at :20 to Bennett Groce of Williston.
In the 6th grade 116 class, Jayvian Paint placed fourth. He lost his first match by fall at :53 to Landon Laska of Minot. After a bye in the next round, he won by fall at 1:30 over Demetri Crawford of Minot and followed that up with a 17-5 major decision win over Knox Carlson of Killdeer. In the consolation semifinal, he won by fall at 2:36 over Sawyer West of Beulah-Hazen. In the third place match, he lost by fall at 2:49 to Jayden Stallworth of Williston to take fourth.
In the 6th grade 148 class, Briggs Lund placed first. He won his first match by fall at :59 over Jackson Jorstad of Williams County and his next match by fall at :49 over Cael Fox of New Town.
In the 6th grade 189 class, Tsoosie Whiteshield placed second. He won his first match on a 13-0 major decision over Ayden Hatch of Harvey and then lost his second match by fall at :37 to Deklyn Donoven of Williams County.
