Blue Jay Girls Split Games

Stanley’s varsity girls’ basketball team had two games on their schedule last week, both at home. They hosted Rugby on Tuesday, Jan. 21, dropping the game with a score of 39 to 65. On Friday, Jan. 24, they hosted Hazen, winning by a score of 60 to 55.

At home on Tuesday, Jan. 21, the Blue Jays faced the Rugby Panthers. Rugby took a fourteen point lead at the end of the first quarter, extending their lead to nineteen at the half on their way to the 65 to 39  victory.
As a team, Stanley made 12 of their 39 two point attempts and 4 of their 14 three point attempts. They converted 3 of their 6 free throws. Rugby made 20 of their 51 two point, 4 of their 15 three point, and 13 of their 19 free throw attempts.
The Blue Jays had 13 offensive and 23 defensive rebounds. They had 9 assists, 3 steals and 1 block. They committed 19 turnovers. The Panthers had 19 offensive and 22 defensive rebounds. They had 14 assists, 13 steals, 6 blocks and committed 6 turnovers.
Taya Niemitalo led the team with 11 points, followed by Annie Roise with 7, Brinley Larson with 6, CeeJay Bohmbach with 5, Lexi Neset and Harley DeTienne with 4 each and Payton Lystad with 2.
Harley DeTienne had 8 rebounds, followed by Annie Roise with 7, Taya Niemitalo with 5, Lexi Neset with 4, CeeJay Bohmbach with 3, Payton Lystad with 2 and Brinley Larson with 1.
Taya Niemitalo had 3 assists, followed by Jacee Johnson with 2, and Lexi Neset, Harley DeTienne, Annie Roise and Brinley Larson with 1 each.
Taya Niemitalo, Jacee Johnson and Annie Roise each had 1 steal.
Annie Roise had the team’s one block.

Stanley vs. Hazen
At home again on Friday, Jan. 24, the Blue Jays hosted the Hazen Bison. Hazen had a four point lead at the end of the first quarter, with Stanley coming back to tie the game at the half. The Blue Jays took a nine point lead at the end of three quarters and held on to win by a score of 60 to 55.
As a team, the Blue Jays made 15 of their 28 two point and 6 of their 17 three point attempts. They made 12 of their 25 free throw attempts. The Bison made 14 of their 49 two point, 2 of their 12 three point, and 21 of their 29 free throw attempts.
Stanley had 6 offensive and 29 defensive rebounds. They had 8 assists and 13 steals. They committed 20 turnovers. Hazen had 20 offensive and 21 defensive rebounds. They had 6 assists, 14 steals, and committed 24 turnovers.
Taya Niemitalo led the team with 16 points, followed by Annie Roise and Brinley Larson with 13 each, Harley DeTienne and Jacee Johnson with 6 each, Lexi Neset with 4 and Payton Lystad with 2.
