Blue Jay Girls Win At Berthold

The Blue Jay girls’ varsity basketball team had one game on their schedule on Tuesday, Dec. 30 when they traveled to Berthold for tournament action.
Stanley met up with the Minot North sophomores. The Sentinels held a three point lead at the end of the first quarter, but the Blue Jays came back strong in the second and third quarters on their way to the 61 to 53 win.
Head coach Kendell Hunt said, “We started a bit sluggish offensively, but I loved how we flipped the switch and attacked the rim with real purpose and got to the free throw line. That aggression got us rolling and settled us right in. Defensively, our full-court press showed noticeable improvements and helped us get momentum. We brought great energy, created chaos, forced turnovers, and really disrupted them early in the second quarter and into the third. We gave up a few too many open threes when we didn’t close out quite hard enough and they made us pay by knocking them down, but you have to be happy with the resilience and effort down the stretch as we were able to secure the win.”

Kennedi Murphy led the team with 16 points, followed by Annie Roise with 14, Kiplee Nordloef with 13, Taya Niemitalo and Payton Lystad with 6 each, CeeJay Bohmbach with 3, Carly Rismon with 2 and Teigan Moe with 1.
Kiplee Nordloef had 9 rebounds, followed by Payton Lystad with 8, Annie Roise with 6, CeeJay Bohmbach and Kennedi Murphy with 4 each, Taya Niemitalo with 2, and Evy Davis and Carly Rismon with 1 each.
Taya Niemitalo had 5 assists, followed by Kiplee Nordloef with 4, CeeJay Bohmbach and Kennedi Murphy with 2 each, and Payton Lystad and Annie Roise with 1 each.
Payton Lystad had the teams one block.
