Stanley Airport Hosts Fly In/Drive In
It was a busy afternoon and evening at the Stanley Airport as they hosted their annual Fly In and Drive In on Saturday, Aug. 16. Although weather stopped most of the guests from flying into the airport, area residents turned out in force to enjoy the evening.
Some of the pilots that call Stanley home rolled their planes out of the hangars to give visitors a chance to see the different types of planes that are housed at the Stanley Airport. There was a free supper of burgers, hot dogs and salads with Wilson Park Take Away Café stepping to the plate to do the cooking. Too Old To Stand took to the stage in the evening with guests enjoying dancing to the music.
This year’s special guest came from the Minot Air Force as one of their Huey helicopters landed in the early afternoon. Joseph Wolter had his model airplanes on display. Skyline Precision Ag provided a drone demonstration. Guests also had a chance to play with some smaller drones and register for a drone that was being given away.
One of the most popular stops at the airport was the flight simulator. Using the former weather modification building, the airport has put in this flight simulator. It allows potential would-be pilots to experience what they might see if they were airborne.
With a strong focus on both safety and community involvement, the Stanley Municipal Airport continues to enhance its role as a vital asset for the region, supporting pilots, travelers, and the future of aviation in North Dakota.
