Reading Month Wraps Up At Stanley Elementary

April was reading month at the Stanley Elementary School. This year’s reading month had a circus theme. At the kick-off, students were entertained by gymnasts, plate spinners, strong men and a sword swallower. Throughout the month, students read to earn prizes and to earn enough points for teachers and staff members to kiss a camel.
On Wednesday, Apr. 30, students got to see the results of their efforts. Chamley Camel Ranch brought two of their camels to the school. Throughout the morning and early afternoon, each class got to go out and see and touch the camels and watch their teachers kiss the camel if they had reached the goal.
In the afternoon, it was time for the staff members to take their turn while the students cheered them on. Students had earned enough points to ensure that Principal Brooks Stafslien, Assistant Principal Jenn Tronset and Superintendent Tim Holte were among those smooching with the camels.
Individual prizes were drawn with Markus Beehler winning the five pound container of animal crackers. Ms. Weed’s class earned a free recess for the highest participation during dress-up days. Ms. Weed and Mrs. Drosdal’s classes earned the pool parties. The winner of the $100 Barnes and Noble gift card was Ethan Song.
Top readers were recognized each week during the month. The top readers for the month were Landri Skarsgard, Karsyn Gustafson, Alexa Guiterrez, Omni Roise, Tate Durfee, Emi Taylor and Levi Addicott.
