4-H In The Classroom

4-H In The Classroom

Last week was National 4-H Week with a theme of Rooted and Ready, highlighting how 4-H helps young people build strong roots through positive youth development experiences while preparing them to become confident leaders ready for the future. For more than a century, 4-H has empowered youth through hands-on learning opportunities that help them develop life skills, leadership abilities, citizenship, and workforce readiness. The 2026 theme recognizes that 4-H members are rooted in people, purpose, community, and a legacy of learning by doing, while also being ready for life, work, leadership, and whatever opportunities come next.
The week had different themes for each day including Rooted in 4-H, celebrating the history of 4-H; Go Green Day; Ready for Life; Ready for What’s Next; Thankful Thursday; and Ready to Serve.
Mountrail County 4-H’ers were in the classroom at Stanley Elementary School on Friday, Oct. 10 for “4-H in the Classroom” with grades two through five. The second graders learned about 4-H by playing 4-H Bingo, third graders made 4-H snack mix, fourth graders made friendship bracelets, and fifth graders made Clover Catchers.
This was a chance for those 4-H members, leaders and volunteers to expose students to the many things you can do in 4-H. It also clarified that you do not have to live on a farm and have animals to be in 4-H. It also highlighted some of the different things that youth can experience in 4-H including archery, public speaking, drawing, painting, baking, science, plants, insects, coding, sewing, welding, woodworking, and animals, but so much more. Students were sent home with a flyer with a QR code to get information about 4-H. You can also call Mountrail County Extension at 701-628-2835, ext. 1, for more information on how to get involved with 4-H.
4-H continues to make a lasting impact by helping young people discover their passions, develop essential life skills, and become engaged citizens and leaders. National 4-H Week is an opportunity to recognize the achievements of 4-H members and the many volunteers and supporters who help make those achievements possible.
