Wrestlers Open Season At Home; In Action At Velva Tournament

Stanley’s varsity wrestlers opened their season at home on Thursday, Dec. 5 hosting Williams County and Grenora/MonDak. Grenora and Williams County opened action in a short dual, followed by Stanley vs. Williams County. The evening also featured many exhibition matches that allowed the girls’ wrestlers and younger wrestlers to get some early season match time.
In the dual with Williams County, the Firestorm came out on top with a score of 40 to 26.
Individual results for the Blue Jays were as follows:
At 107 pounds, Chase Brown lost on a 9-1 major decision to Kase Brown.
At 114 pounds, Tristian Miller of Williams County won by forfeit with Stanley open.
At 121 pounds, Regan Gustafson won by fall at :36 over McCoy Jorstad.
At 127 pounds, Louden Haugen won on a 16-0 tech fall at 3:21 over Nickolas Polglaze.
At 133 pounds, Brayden Fritel lost on an 8-3 decision to Michael Twinn.
At 139 pounds, Cohen Bell won on a 5-2 decision over Boden Iverson.
At 145 pounds, Dane Dunham lost by fall at 1:39 to Kash Brown.
At 152 pounds, Kane Reep lost by fall at 1:30 to Jeremiah Schmidt.
At 160 pounds, Colter Fladeland lost on a 6-2 decision to Gavin Davidson.
At 172 pounds, Rocker Aguilar of Williams County won by forfeit with Stanley open.
At 189 pounds, Griffin Wilhelmi won by fall at 4:43 over Ashton Weathersby.
At 215 pounds, Trey Bohmbach won by fall at 3:54 over Brennin Thuesen.
At 285 pounds, Levi Uran lost by fall at 2:50 to Matthew Jacobs.
Velva Tournament
Both the boys’ and girls’ wrestlers were in tournament action in Velva over the weekend.
On the girls’ side, Carrington took home the team title with a score of 172.5, followed by New Salem-Almont with 120.00, Harvey with 97.5, Kenmare with 89 and Williams County with 70 rounding out the top five. The Blue Jays finished in 8th with 59 team points.
Individual results for the Blue Jays were as follows:
At 100 pounds, River DeTienne had a first round bye and then lost in quarterfinals by fall at 1:41 to Alayna Gussiaas of Carrington. After a bye in the next round, she lost on a 24-6 tech fall at 5:25 to Aubrey Sorenson of Watford City to end her tournament action.
At 106 pounds, Molly Danks placed fifth. She lost her first round match by fall at 3:38 to Tori Jacobson of Bowman County/Beach and her next round match by fall at 1:42 to Emma Shively of Rugby. She lost her next match by fall at 2:20 to Grace Fedler of Williams County and her last match by fall at :40 to Aysa Reimche of Carrington to take fifth place.
At 112 pounds, Kimber Fritel placed fourth. She lost her quarterfinal match by fall at 5:23 to Addison Yates of Harvey. She came back to win her next match by fall at :25 over Danica Boyd of Williams County and followed that up with a win by fall at :56 over Quory Whiteford of Williams County in the consolation semifinals. In the third place match, she lost by fall at 5:24 to Violette Sola of Velva to take fourth place.
At 124 pounds, Aubree Bunner placed third. After a first round bye, she won her quarterfinal match by fall at 2:50 over Briar Krisher of DLB. In semifinals, she lost by fall at 1:18 to Keisha Tomac of New Salem-Almont. She came back in the next round to win by fall at 1:37 over Paige Studdard of Carrington. She won the third place match by fall at 1:19 over Kyri Hornbacher of Harvey.
At 136 pounds, McKenna Jones placed fifth. She lost her first round match by fall at 1:37 to Hailey Wiesz of Harvey. After a bye in the next round, she won her match over Courtney Slaubaugh of Rugby by fall at :47. She won her next match on a 12-1 major decision over Amanda Aguilar of Stanley, but lost in the consolation semifinals by fall at 3:02 to Madison Irwin of New Salem-Almont. In the fifth place match, she won on a 13-2 major decision over Haidyn Lematta of Harvey.
