Wrestlers At Rumble On The Red

The Blue Jays took seven wrestlers to Rumble on the Red in Fargo on Friday, Jan. 2 and Saturday, Jan. 3. With over 2,000 wrestlers in the varsity and junior varsity boys, and girls teams, teams came from North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, Nebraska and Montana.
Cohen Bell was the only Blue Jay wrestler in the varsity division, while Louden Haugen, Brayden Fritel, Colter Fladeland, Kane Reep, Asher Batteiger and Coda Fladeland competed in the junior varsity brackets. Haugen came home with the title in the 127 pound division and Batteiger placed fourth in the 185 pound division.
Individual results for the Blue Jays were as follows:
At 133 pounds, Cohen Bell had a bye in the first round of the 64 man bracket in the varsity division. He won his next match on a 9-4 decision over Landon Rinke of Moorhead, MN and followed that up with a 20-8 major decision win over Thadd Hanson of Sheyenne. In quarterfinals, he lost on a 5-2 decision to Owen Bunde of Tri Valley, SD. In the consolation quarterfinals, he lost in sudden victory overtime on a 5-3 decision to Darryl Jackson of Simley, MN to end his tournament action.
At 127 pounds in the junior varsity division, Louden Haugen took home the title. After a bye in the first round of the 128 man bracket, he won his first match by fall at :29 over Brantley Klein of Fulda-Murray Cty Central, MN. He followed that up with a 14-1 major decision over Owen Rud of Mounds View, MN. He won his next match on 20-4 tech fall at 2:55 over Brayden Tjaden of Dawson-Boyd-Lac Qui Parle-Montevideo United, MN. In quarterfinals, he won on a 9-2 decision over Grayson Pischke of West Central, SD. In semifinals, he won by fall at 5:15 over Brody Keller of Pine Island, MN. In finals, he won on a 12-3 major decision over Michael Elsmore of Pine Island, MN to take the title.
At 145 pounds in the junior varsity division, Brayden Fritel had a first round bye in the 128 man bracket. He won his first match on a 16-1 tech fall over Henry Kallevig of Williston. He lost his next match on a 13-2 major decision to Asher Ludwig of White Bear Lake Area, MN and his final match by medical forfeit to Geovany Munoz of Jackson County Central, MN to end his tournament action.
At 160 pounds in the junior varsity division, Colter Fladeland had a bye in the first round of the 128 man bracket. He won his first match by fall at 2:59 over Don Turner of Mahnomen-Waubun, MN. In the next round, he lost on a 13-8 decision to Noah Stombaugh of Simley, MN but came back to win by fall at 1:19 over Ian Clary of Bismarck Century. He won his next match on a 17-1 tech fall over Reagan Bryant of Rapid City Stevens. In his final match, he lost on a 9-0 major decision to Cody Crooks of Sidney/Fairview, MT to end his tournament action.

At 172 pounds in the junior varsity division, Kane Reep opened his action in the 128 man bracket with a win by fall at :33 over Daniel Flores of Walker-Hack-Akeley-Nevis-Laporte, MN. He followed that up with a win by fall at 3:46 over Jayden Juve of Grand Rapids, MN. In the next round, he lost on an 8-7 decision to Riley Paquin of Moorhead, MN. He came back in the next round to win by fall at 1:55 over Matt Koch of Walker-Hack-Akeley-Nevis-La-porte, MN and followed that up with a 7-0 decision win over Jackson Olsen of Pequot Lks-Pine River-B, MN. He won his next match on a medical forfeit over Cody Reed of Forest Lake, MN and then won by fall at 3:56 over Myles Theis of Waconia, MN. In the consolation quarters, he lost by fall at 2:42 to Ayden Hinsey of Grand Forks Central to end his tournament action.
At 189 pounds in the  junior varsity division, Asher Batteiger placed fourth. After a first round bye in the 128 man bracket, he won his next match by fall at 1:26 over Genesis Wiredu of Watford City. He followed that up with a win by fall at 1:34 over Josh Kranz of Dawson-Boyd-Lac Qui Parle-Montevideo United, MN. He won his next match by fall at 1:19 over Abraham Curtiss of Grand Rapids, MN. In quarterfinals, he won by fall at 2:26 over Noah Werner of Velva. In semifinals, he lost by fall at 4:32 to Teddy Auer of Holdingford, MN. He came back in the consolation semifinals to win by fall at 2:19 over Samuel Brink of Rapid City Stevens. In the third place match, he lost on a 15-4 major decision to Noah Werner of Velva to take fourth place.
At 215 pounds in the junior varsity division, Coda Fladeland had a bye in the first round of the 64 man bracket. He lost his first match to Ryley Taylor of Holdingford, MN in overtime on a 12-10 decision. He then lost by fall at 1:22 to Mike Swedberg of West Fargo to end his tournament action.
Up Next: The Blue Jays are in triangular action in Velva on Thursday, Jan. 8. The girls will be in action at the Rotary Tournament in Bismarck on Friday, Jan. 9 while the junior varsity and junior high boys will be at the Tioga Tournament. The varsity boys will be at the Tioga Tournament on Saturday, Jan. 10.
