Volleyball Team Heads To Regions

Stanley’s varsity volleyball team entered the District 16 Tournament in Tioga as the number five seed. In first round action on Thursday, Oct. 27, the Blue Jays faced #4 seed Ray, winning the match in five sets. On the other side of the bracket, #3 Powers Lake posted the win over #6 seed Tioga. Kenmare, as the number one seed, and Divide County, as number two, both had first round byes.
Friday saw semifinal action with Kenmare defeating the Blue Jays in straight sets, while Powers Lake posted the win over Divide County.
Region qualifier action was on Monday, Oct. 31. In the first game of the day, Stanley posted the win over Tioga and Ray defeated Divide County to earn the right to advance to the Region 8 Tournament. Kenmare posted the win over Powers Lake to claim the district title, with both teams also advancing to the Region 8 Tournament.
As the tournament wrapped up, awards were also presented.
McKenna Hallgren, Brooklyn Fortier and Jule Stenson of Divide County; Abbey Kohler, Kate Zimmer, Brenna Stroklund and Madison Melin of Kenmare-Bowbells; Samantha Fredrickson and Camryn Rystedt of Powers Lake-Burke Central; Addyson Johnson and Maelee Cancade of Ray; and Ava Schuster of Stanley were named to the All District Team for their regular season performance.
Brooklyn Fortier of Divide County; Brenna Stroklund, Kate Zimmer and Madison Melin of Kenmare-Bowbells; Chiara Rystedt and Lexi McEvers of Powers Lake-Burke Central; Suede Daly and Maelee Cancade of Ray; and Ava Schuster and Kerrington Lee of Stanley were named to the All Tournament Team.
Tim Wallstrum of Kenmare-Bowbells was named the District Coach of the Year and Kate Zimmer of Kenmare-Bowbells was named the District Senior Athlete of the Year. The Spirit Award went to Ray High School.
The Region 8 Tournament tips off on Monday, Nov. 7 at 3:00 p.m. at the Tioga High School. In first round action, Kenmare-Bowbells will face Alexander, followed by New Town vs. Stanley; Ray vs. Trenton and Powers Lake-Burke Central vs. Trinity Christian.
The tournament will continue on Tuesday, Nov. 8 with winners from Monday advancing to the semifinal night starting at 6:00 p.m. The tournament wraps up on Thursday, Nov. 10 starting with the third place match at 6:00 p.m. and championship to follow.
