Stanley Hosts NW Region Duals

The postseason is underway for wrestlers across the state, starting with the team duals last weekend. Stanley hosted the NW Region Duals on Saturday, Feb. 8 with teams looking to punch their ticket to the State Dual Tournament.
In the first round, Velva had a bye. Stanley posted the 23-15 win over Bishop Ryan, DesLacs/Burlington defeated Kenmare/Bowbells/Burke Central 48 to 25, and Williams County won over MonDak with a score of 28 to 9.
In the next round, Bishop Ryan had a bye. Velva topped Stanley with a score of 60 to 14 and Williams County topped DLB with a score of 49 to 19.
In the consolation round, DLB defeated Bishop Ryan 48 to 30 and Stanley defeated KBBC 52 to 15.
That set up the placing rounds with Velva claiming the region title with a 51 to 17 win over Williams County and Stanley topping DLB 31 to 30 to take third place. Having not met up in the regular brackets, Stanley wrestled Williams County to determine the true second place with Williams County taking the 51 to 21 win.
Velva and Williams County will represent the Northwest Region in the State Dual Tournament set for Saturday, Feb. 22 at the Fargodome.
Stanley vs. Bishop Ryan
The Blue Jays posted the 23-15 win over Bishop Ryan in the first round. Individual results for the Blue Jays were as follows:
At 107 pounds, Chase Brown won by forfeit with Ryan open.
At 121 pounds, Regan Gustafson won on a 23-4 tech fall over Afton Ost.
At 133 pounds, Cohen Bell won by fall at 4:00 over Nolan Braun.
At 139 pounds, Brayden Fritel lost on an 11-0 major decision to Zachary Spain.
At 172 pounds, Ace Johnson lost on a 17-1 tech fall to Drew Zwak.
At 189 pounds, Trey Bohmbach won by forfeit with Ryan open.
At 285 pounds, Levi Uran lost by fall at :50 to Cade Okeson.
Both teams were open at 114, 127, 145, 152, 160 and 215 pounds.
Stanley vs. Velva
The Blue Jays met up with Velva in the semifinals, losing by a score of 14 to 60. Individual results for the Blue Jays were as follows:
At 107 pounds, Chase Brown lost by fall at 3:13 to Isaiah Hackman.
At 114 pounds, Alex Leier of Velva won by forfeit with Stanley open.
At 121 pounds, Regan Gustafson lost by fall at 1:27 to Pitch Hager.
At 127 pounds, Cohen Bell won on a 19-2 tech fall over Easton Barstad.
At 133 pounds, Braden Fritel lost by fall at :58 to Lucas Soli.
At 139 pounds, Brextyn Yanish of Velva won by forfeit with Stanley open.
At 145 pounds, Kane Reep lost by fall at 1:31 to Carson Hildre.
At 152 pounds, Colter Fladeland lost by fall at 1:48 to Lexton Smith.
At 160 pounds, Gage Mudderman lost by fall at 1:39 to Maddox Campbell.
At 172 pounds, Ace Johnson lost by fall at :55 to Noah Werner.
At 189 pounds, Trey Bohmbach won by fall at 1:26 over Evan Rensch.
At 215 pounds, Griffin Wilhelmi won on an 8-2 decision over Jayden Foss.
At 285 pounds, Levi Uran lost by fall in overtime to Hank Bodine.
