Girls’ Basketball Season Opens Tuesday

Girls’ Basketball Season Opens Tuesday

Stanley’s varsity girls’ basketball team will open their season at home on Tuesday, Nov. 29 when they host Killdeer. That will be followed up for the varsity and junior varsity with the Shootout on the Prairie at the Minot Auditorium with the Blue Jays set to play Velva on Friday, Dec. 2 with junior varsity at 11:30 a.m. and varsity at 2:00 p.m. The Shootout continues on Saturday, Dec. 3 as the Blue Jays play South  Prairie with varsity at 11:30 a.m. and junior varsity at 1:00 p.m.
Right on the heels of this two-day event will be the Killdeer Tournament on December 6, 8 and 10. This tournament will allow the Blue Jays to play teams they would not normally see over the course of the season. They will be on the road on Tuesday, Dec. 20 to face DesLacs Burlington.
After starting practice on Monday, Nov. 14, third year head coach Heath Hetzel has similar numbers this year with 21 athletes out for the squad. That number includes four eighth graders that have been moved up to the varsity level. They brought up the players for dual reasons. It allows them to play all three squads at the high school level, with ten C squad games on the schedule this year. It also fills in the numbers for practices. There are also high numbers at the junior high level. With 20 girls looking to play, sometimes with only one game, the move balances numbers everywhere in the program.
