Four Blue Jays Place At State

The Stanley Blue Jays sent eight wrestlers to the State Class B Individual Tournament at the Fargodome last week. Four of those Blue Jays placed at the tournament. Cohen Bell finished second at 127, Trey Bohmbach placed fourth at 189, Griffin Wilhelmi placed sixth at 215, and Levi Uran placed eighth at 285.
Five Blue Jays also earned academic all-state honors with Cohen Bell, Trey Bohmbach, Colter Fladeland, Regan Gustafson and Kane Reep making the list.
As a team, South Border took home the title with 149.5 points, followed by Williams County with 116, Velva with 114, New Salem-Almont with 109, and Oakes rounding out the top five with 90.5. The Blue Jays finished in 14th with 57.5 team points.
Individual results for the Blue Jays were as follows:
At 114 pounds, Louden Haugen entered the tournament as the number five seed. He lost his first match by fall at 3:26 to Keenan Gores of Northern Lights. He came back in the next consolation round to win on a 19-1 tech fall at 3:43 over Logan Heid of New Salem-Almont. In the next round, he lost on a 15-6 major decision to Peyton Seay of Bishop Ryan to end his tournament action.
At 121 pounds, Regan Gustafson came into the tournament unseeded. He faced the #5 seed Joshua Ternes of Beulah-Hazen in the first round, losing on a 17-2 tech fall at 3:48. In the next round, he lost on a 12-1 major decision to Cameron Benson of Killdeer to end his tournament action.
At 127 pounds, Cohen Bell came into the tournament seeded third. He won his first round match on a 14-2 major decision over Easton Hansen of DLB. In quarterfinals, he won on a 9-0 major decision over Riley Hasbrouck of Hettinger/Scranton. He faced the number two seed Noah Anderson in semifinals, earning a hard-fought 3-0 win. In finals, he faced the number one seed Charlie Irwin of New Salem-Almont, losing on a 10-1 major decision to take second.
At 139 pounds, Kane Reep came into the tournament unseeded. He lost his first round match to the number six seeded Gabriel Clifton of Carrington on a 10-0 major decision. In the next round, he lost on a 4-0 decision to Zachary Spain of Bishop Ryan to end his tournament action.
At 152 pounds, Colter Fladeland came into the tournament unseeded. He lost his first match on a 16-0 tech fall to the number two seed Corbin Clifton of Carrington. He came back to win his next match by fall at 3:07 over Zander Dovenmuehler of Hillsboro-Central Valley. In his last match, he lost by fall at 4:53 to the number eight seed Zade Heier of Oakes to end his tournament action.
At 189 pounds, Trey Bohmbach entered the tournament as the number three seed. He won his first match by fall at 1:45 over Luke Walski of Northern Cass. In quarterfinals, he won on a 6-5 decision over number six seeded Kenny Smith of DLB. He lost his semifinal match on a 12-3 major decision to the number two seed Christian Mertz of Harvey-Wells County. He came back in his consolation semifinal to win on an 8-2 decision over number five seed Brayden Chenault of Hillsboro-Central Valley. In the third place match, he lost on a 12-2 major decision to number four seed William Roundy of Killdeer to take fourth place.
At 215 pounds, Griffin Wilhelmi came in as the seventh seed. He won his first round match by fall at 4:34 over Jayden Foss of Velva. In quarterfinals, he lost by fall at 1:43 to number two seed Ivan Carruth of Ellendale-Edgeley-Kulm. He came back in his first consolation round to win by fall at 3:35 over Brock Lyons, the number eight seed, from Lisbon. He followed that up with a win by fall at 2:31 over Max Cline of Oakes. In the consolation semifinal, he lost on a 15-2 major decision to CL Weinberger, the number five seed, from New Salem-Almont. In the fifth place match, he lost on a 10-1 major decision to Ivan Carruth to place sixth in the tournament.
At 285 pounds, Levi Uran came into the tournament unseeded. He lost his first round match to the number two seed Cole Nitschke of South Border by fall at 3:42. He came back in the next round to win by fall at 2:32 over the number seven seed Hank Bodine of Velva. He followed that up with a win over Delaney Feldman of Kenmare-Bowbells on a 11-5 decision. In the third consolation round, he lost by fall at 2:44 to number four seed Porter Johnson of Harvey-Wells County. In the seventh place match, he lost by fall at 1:52 to Dane Jepson, the number eight seed from Killdeer, to take eighth place in the tournament.
