District Volleyball Action
The District 16 Volleyball Tournament tipped off on Thursday, Oct. 31 at the Divide County High School in Crosby.
First day action saw Kenmare-Bowbells and Ray with a bye. In the first game of the day, Powers Lake-Burke Central defeated Divide County, while Stanley took Tioga to five sets in the second game of the day.
On Friday, Nov. 1, both Stanley and Divide County had a bye. In semi-final action, Kenmare-Bowbells defeated Powers Lake-Burke Central and Tioga posted the win over Ray.
That set up the region qualifiers and championship on Monday, Nov. 4. In the first match of the day, Powers Lake-Burke Central posted the win over Stanley and Ray defeated Divide County to earn the right to advance to the Region 8 tournament. In the championship, Kenmare-Bowbells defeated Tioga, with both teams also advancing to the Region 8 tournament.
In District 15, Alexander defeated LC/NSP in the first region qualifying game. New Town topped White Sheild in the other region qualifier. Trenton defeated Parshall to claim the District 15 championship.
The Region 8 Tournament starts on Monday, Nov. 11 at Williston State College. First round games will see Kenmare-Bowbells versus Alexander in the first match of the day at 3:00 p.m., followed by Ray versus Parshall, Powers Lake-Burke Central against Trenton and end with Tioga versus New Town. Winners will advance to play in the semifinals on Tuesday, Nov. 12 starting at 6:00 p.m. The third place match will be at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 14, followed by the championship match with the winner earning the right to advance to the State Tournament set for November 21-23 at the Fargodome.
Stanley vs. Tioga
In their first match of the tournament, the Blue Jays entered as the number six seed, meeting up with number three seed Tioga.
The Pirates took the first set with a score of 25-15, but Stanley battled hard to send the second set to extra points with Tioga still winning by a score of 28-26. The Blue Jays fought hard and took the next two sets with scores of 25-22 and 25-18 to send the match to a fifth and deciding set. The Pirates came out on top with a score of 15-12 to advance to the semifinals.
Individual stats for the Blue Jays were as follows:
Tylie Johnson had 37 assists.
Jordee Skaar, Danica Hermanson and Annie Roise each had 10 kills, followed by Brenna Wenger and Taya Niemitalo with 9 each, Tylie Johnson with 4 and Halle Larson with 1.
Danica Hermanson had 4 aces, followed by Karley Jemtrud with 2, and Tylie Johnson, McKenna Jones and Taya Niemitalo with 1 each.
Karley Jemtrud had 21 digs, followed by Danica Hermanson and Tylie Johnson with 16 each, McKenna Jones with 14, Halle Larson and Khloe Jemtrud with 6 each, Jordee Skaar and Taya Niemitalo with 3 each, Brenna Wenger with 2, and Annie Roise with 1.
Brenna Wenger had 2 blocks, followed by Annie Roise and Taya Niemitalo with 1 each.
