Blue Jays Top Nedrose, In Action In DL
The Blue Jays varsity boys’ basketball team had three games on their schedule last week. They played Nedrose at home on Thursday, Jan. 16, posting the 71 to 31 win. They were on the road on Friday, Jan. 17 and Saturday, Jan. 18 at the Devils Lake Shootout, dropping their games to Central Cass and Shiloh Christian.

The Blue Jays were at home on Thursday, Jan. 16, hosting the Nedrose Cardinals. The Blue Jays used a strong first half to take a 25 point lead into the break, increasing their lead in each of the quarters in the second half on their way to the 71 to 31 victory.
Head coach Kory Anderson said, “It was a great team effort! We were able to play inside out as Bennett and Ben both played great and dominated the paint. One of our goals is to have over 30 points in the paint and we were able to do that. We were able to get our first 3 game sweep of the season. Landon Hunting led the team and set the tone early in the C game and JV game. We recognized Kade Snyder after the game as well, as he won the Defensive Pride Belt as well as the honor of speaking to the young kids at Victories Bell. Kade has done a great job doing the little things for the team all season long.”
As a team, Stanley made 27 of their 47 two point attempts and 3 of their 11 three point attempts. They converted 8 of their 13 free throw attempts. That compared to 11 of 32 two point, 3 of 19 three point, and 0 of 1 free throw attempts for the Cardinals.
The Blue Jays had 14 offensive and 23 defensive rebounds. They had 16 assists, 11 steals and 5 blocks while committing just 9 turnovers. Nedrose had 14 offensive and 16 defensive boards, 6 assists, 7 steals and 5 blocks. They committed 20 turnovers.
Bennett Larson led the team with 22 points, followed by Drake Schlosser with 18, Ben Hynek with 16, Austin Kanenwisher with 8, Jevon Johnson with 3, and Caleb Mortensen and Kade Snyder with 2 each.
Bennett Larson had 10 rebounds, followed by Ben Hynek with 5, Caleb Mortensen and Kade Snyder with 4 each, Ashton Peterson and Jevon Johnson with 3 each, Drake Schlosser with 2, and Austin Kanenwisher and Brett Leith with 1 each.
Drake Schlosser and Ben Hynek had 4 assists each, followed by Austin Kanenwisher and Jevon Johnson with 3 each, and Kade Snyder with 2.

Stanley vs. Central Cass
The Blue Jays were at the Devils Lake Shootout on Friday, Jan. 17, facing the Central Cass Squirrels. They were originally set to play Valley City, but weather concerns led to a change in the original scheduling that day.
Central Cass held a five point lead at the end of the first quarter, but Stanley was able to bring the game back to a tie at the end of the half. The Squirrels had a four point lead at the end of three quarters, but used a strong fourth quarter to claim the 59 to 43 win.
Coach Anderson said, “Central Cass was a replacement game for us since we weren’t able to play Valley City. It was a good matchup for us, but we were well under our averages and shot free throws extremely poorly. We missed way too many layups as well.”
As a team, the Blue Jays made 15 of their 35 two point and 2 of their 12 three point attempts. They converted 7 of their 20 free throw attempts. The Squirrels made 14 of their 26 two point, 7 of their 20 three point, and 10 of their 13 free throw attempts.
Stanley had 11 offensive and 21 defensive rebounds. They had 7 assists, 5 steals and 1 block. They committed 15 turnovers. Central Cass had 4 offensive and 25 defensive rebounds, 13 assists, 7 steals and 1 block. They committed 12 turnovers.
Bennett Larson led the team with 14 points, followed by Drake Schlosser with 13, Ben Hynek with 12, and Jevon Johnson and Kade Snyder with 2 each.
