Blue Jays Season Ends At Regions

The Region 8 volleyball tournament got underway on Monday, Nov. 7 at the Tioga High School. In first round action, it was a District 16 sweep. Kenmare-Bowbells defeated Alexander in the first game of the day in straight sets. Stanley topped New Town three sets to one. Ray topped Trenton three sets to one. Powers Lake-Burke Central defeated Williston Trinity Christian in straight sets in the last game of the day.
That set up semifinal night on Tuesday, Nov. 8 with Kenmare-Bowbells claiming the win over Stanley in the first game of the night. Powers Lake-Burke Central topped Ray in the second semifinal game.
Championship Night was held on Thursday, Nov. 10. In the third place game, the Ray Jays claimed the win over the Stanley Blue Jays. With a trip to the State Tournament on the line, Kenmare-Bowbells came out on top over Powers Lake-Burke Central.
As the tournament wrapped up, individual awards were presented. The Region 8 Coach of the Year award went to Tim Wallstrum of Kenmare-Bowbells. The Honkers Kate Zimmer was named the Region 8 Athlete of the Year.
The members of the Region 8 All Tournament Team were Taya Aufforth, Anne Stroklund, Brenna Stroklund and Kate Zimmer of Kenmare-Bowbells; Savannah Fredrickson, Camryn Rystedt and Chiara Rystedt of Powers Lake-Burke Central; Addyson Johnson and Maelee Cancade of Ray; and Ava Schuster of Stanley.
The State Tournament is set for November 17-19 at the Bismarck Event Center. The three-day event will begin Thursday, November 17 at 1:00 p.m. with Class A and B action. Class A Quarterfinals will be played at Bismarck Event Center Main Arena. Class B Quarterfinals will be played at Bismarck Event Center Exhibition Hall.
