Blue Jays Post Win Over Royals
The Stanley Blue Jays varsity football team was on the road last week to face the South Prairie Royals in an afternoon game on Friday, Oct. 7.
The Royals got the ball to start the game, but ended up punting. Stanley’s Ethyn Jessen scored the Blue Jays first touchdown on the ensuing drive on and eight yard run with the point after by Jonathan Chavez good. The Blue Jays Jacob Roses pulled down the interception to end the Royals next drive, giving Stanley back the ball with 2:40 left in the quarter. Stanley quarterback Cal Sorenson took the ball from their own 31 to the house to put the Blue Jays up 14 to 0 after the point after by Chavez was again good. The Royals failed to cover the kickoff giving the Blue Jays back the ball as the quarter came to an end. A field goal attempt at the end of that drive in the second quarter failed by the Blue Jays.
Late in the second quarter, the Blue Jays recovered the fumbled ball as they sacked the quarterback, but were unable to capitalize on the drive. As the Royals drive stalled with 1:08 left in the half, the Blue Jays blocked the punt and took over possession on the 47 yard line. An 18 yard touchdown pass to Josh Hetzel from Cal Sorenson and the point after attempt good again by Chavez gave the Blue Jays the 21-0 lead with 22 seconds left in the half.
