Blue Jays Post Two Wins

Stanley’s varsity boys’ basketball team had two games on their schedule last week. On Tuesday, Feb. 18, they hosted South Prairie, winning by a score of 55 to 38. On Friday, they were on the road to play Bottineau, winning that game with a score of 60 to 58.
Stanley vs. South Prairie
At home on Tuesday, Feb. 18, the Blue Jays took on the South Prairie Royals. Stanley got out to a quick start, holding a 17-6 lead at the end of the first quarter. They added to their lead in the second half on their way to the 55 to 38 victory.
Head Coach Kory Anderson said, “South Prairie wasn’t just a typical game night. It was our senior night, and we decided to award a very important person some playing time. Jack Evans has been doing film for the basketball team since he was an 8th grader. To explain his importance, I’ll tell a quick story. Early in the season, we were playing a game and none of us thought we were playing at our best. At half time in the locker room Austin said to the boys, “if we cared about basketball as much as Jack does, we would never get beat”. Jack loves his team and the players he gets to cheer on. For the game, it was a typical Stanley game with over 40 points in the paint and solid defense. We held a surging South Prairie team to 38 points. They have been playing much better late in the season and look to be a tough out going forward.”
As a team, Stanley made 21 of their 36 two point attempts and 1 of their 15 three point attempts. They converted 10 of their 12 free throws. South Prairie made 15 of their 39 two point, 2 of their 14 three point, and 2 of their 4 free throw attempts.
The Blue Jays had 12 offensive and 24 defensive rebounds. They had 13 assists, 7 steals and 3 blocks. They committed 12 turnovers. The Royals had 10 offensive and 16 defensive rebounds, 9 assists, 8 steals and committed 13 turnovers.
Ben Hynek led the team with 19 points, followed by Drake Schlosser and Bennett Larson with 18 each.
