Blue Jays Boys Post Three Wins

Stanley’s varsity boys’ basketball team had three games on their schedule last week, all on the road. On Monday, Feb. 3, they traveled to Nedrose, taking home the 68 to 61 victory. They were in Hazen on Friday, Feb. 7, claiming the 66 to 45 win. On Saturday, Feb. 8, they traveled to Powers Lake winning that game by a score of 46 to 43.
Stanley vs. Nedrose
In their first game of the week, the Blue Jays faced the Nedrose Cardinals on the road. While Nedrose held a four point lead at the half, Stanley came back to take a five point lead at the end of the third quarter. Nedrose fought back in the fourth to tie the game and send it to overtime. The Blue Jays took care of business in overtime on their way to the 68 to 61 win.
As a team, Stanley made 24 of their 52 two point attempts and 2 of their 15 three point attempts. They converted 14 of their 21 free throw attempts. The Cardinals made 17 of their 40 two point, 7 of their 28 three point, and 6 of their 13 free throw attempts.
The Blue Jays had 17 offensive and 30 defensive rebounds. They had 13 assists and 7 steals. They turned the ball over 12 times. Nedrose had 12 offensive and 24 defensive rebounds, 11 assists, 9 steals, 4 blocks, and committed 12 turnovers.
Bennett Larson led the team with 24 points, followed by Drake Schlosser with 23, Ben Hynek with 19 and Jevon Johnson with 2.
Ben Hynek had 16 rebounds, followed by Bennett Larson with 14, Kade Snyder with 7, Drake Schlosser with 5, Jevon Johnson with 3 and Austin Kanenwisher with 1.
Jevon Johnson had 7 assists, followed by Drake Schlosser and Bennett Larson with 2 each, and Austin Kanenwisher and Kade Snyder with 1 each.
Drake Schlosser had 3 steals, followed by Austin Kanenwisher, Ben Hynek, Kade Snyder and Bennett Larson with 1 each.

Stanley vs. Hazen
On the road on Friday, Feb. 7, the Blue Jays faced the Hazen Bison. Stanley had a six point lead at the end of the first quarter, adding another 16 points to their lead by the end of the third quarter on their way to the 66 to 45 win.
Head coach Kory Anderson said, “The boys played great from start to finish. Hazen did a good job trying to frustrate us as they bounced from one defense to another. I thought our boys did a good job of focusing and playing within ourselves no matter what defense they played. 47 points in the paint was the highlight of the game. Overall, it was a good team win!”
Stanley made 23 of their 35 two point and 5 of their 10 three point attempts. They converted 5 of their 10 free throw attempts. Hazen converted 9 of their 31 two point, 8 of their 24 three point, and 3 of their 7 free throw attempts.
The Blue Jays pulled down 6 offensive and 29 defensive boards. They had 15 assists and 7 steals. They committed 19 turnovers. The Bison had 7 offensive and 12 defensive rebounds. They had 12 assists, 6 steals and committed 13 turnovers.
Drake Schlosser led the team with 20 points, followed by Bennett Larson with 19, Ben Hynek with 14, Austin Kanenwisher with 10 and Kade Snyder with 3.
Kade Snyder had 9 rebounds, followed by Bennett Larson with 8, Ben Hynek with 6, Drake Schlosser with 5, Austin Kanenwisher with 3 and Landon Hunting with 1.
Drake Schlosser had 7 assists, followed by Bennett Larson with 3, Kade Snyder with 2, and Austin Kanenwisher, Caleb Mortensen and Ben Hynek with 1 each.

Stanley vs. Powers Lake
The Blue Jays were back on the road on Saturday, Feb. 8 when they traveled to Powers Lake to face the Ranchers. With the Blue Jays playing in Class A and the Ranchers in Class B, this game was a return to an old rivalry and could be seen from the first tip of the ball. The Blue Jays took a ten point lead at the end of the first quarter and led 24 to 14 at the half. Powers Lake had a strong third quarter, leading by one as they went to the fourth. The Blue Jays were able to make the clutch plays in the fourth that led to the 46 to 43 victory.
