Blue Jay Volleyball Team Wins Two

With the regular season getting close to an end, the Blue Jay volleyball team had two home matches on their schedule last week. They hosted the Des Lacs-Burlington Lakers on Tuesday, Oct. 28, taking the match in five sets. On Thursday, Oct. 30, they hosted the Turtle Mountain Braves, taking that match in straight sets.

At home on Tuesday, Oct. 28, the Blue Jays faced region opponent DLB. For the third match in a row, the Blue Jays went to five sets against their opponent. The Lakers took the first set with a score of 25-18, but the Blue Jays came back to take the second set 25 to 13 and third 25 to 21. The Lakers claimed the fourth set with a score of 25-22. That set up the deciding fifth set with the Blue Jays coming out on top with a score of 15-12.
As a team, the Blue Jays had 57 assists, 60 kills, 8 aces, 93 digs and 10 blocks.
Maycee Copeland had 23 assists, followed by Tylie Johnson with 22, Taya Niemitalo with 7, Annie Roise with 2, and Brenna Wenger, Karley Jemtrud and Khloe Jemtrud with 1 each.
Dani Hermanson had 21 kills, followed by Annie Roise with 13, Karley Jemtrud with 8, Brenna Wenger with 7, Taya Niemitalo and Maycee Copeland with 4 each, and Tylie Johnson with 3.
Annie Roise had 4 aces, followed by Karley Jemtrud with 2, and Dani Hermanson and Tylie Johnson with 1 each.
Maycee Copeland had 19 digs, followed by Dani Hermanson with 14, Khloe Jemtrud with 13, Karley Jemtrud with 11, Brenna Wenger and Tylie Johnson with 10 each, McKenna Jones with 8, Annie Roise with 6, and Hannah Warta and Taya Niemitalo with 1 each.
Brenna Wenger had 4 blocks, followed by Taya Niemitalo with 2.5, Karley Jemtrud and Annie Roise with 1.5 each, and Maycee Copeland with .5.

Stanley vs. Turtle Mountain
On Thursday, Oct. 30, the Blue Jays hosted another region opponent in the Turtle Mountain Braves. Stanley took this match in straight sets with scores of 25-17, 26-24 and 27-25.
As a team, Stanley had 35 assists, 38 kills, 11 aces, 72 digs and 4 blocks.
Maycee Copeland had 19 assists, followed by Tylie Johnson with 15 and Dani Hermanson with 1.
Taya Niemitalo and Dani Hermanson each had 10 kills, followed by Annie Roise with 8, Brenna Wenger with 5, Maycee Copeland with 3 and McKenzie Bohrer with 2.
Brenna Wenger had 4 aces, followed by Dani Hermanson with 3, and Tylie Johnson, McKenna Jones, Maycee Copeland and Annie Roise with 1 each.
Khloe Jemtrud had 22 digs, followed by Maycee Copeland with 13, Dani Hermanson and Tylie Johnson with 12 each, McKenna Jones with 5, Brenna Wenger with 3, Taya Niemitalo and Annie Roise with 2 each, and Hannah Warta with 1.
Brenna Wenger had 2 blocks, followed by McKenzie Bohrer with 1, and Taya Niemitalo and Annie Roise with .5 each.

Up Next: After hosting Killdeer on Monday, Nov. 3 in their last regular season match, the Blue Jays are getting ready for the Region 3 Tournament. Action starts on Monday, Nov. 10 at the Minot State University Dome. In first day action, Stanley faces Rugby in the first match of the day at 4:00 p.m., followed by DLB vs. Nedrose and wrapping up with Bottineau vs. Turtle Mountain. South Prairie/Max has a bye in the first round. Winners advance to Tuesday’s matches which will start at 5:30 p.m. The tournament concludes on Thursday, Nov. 13 with the third place match at 5:30 p.m. followed by the championship. The champion will advance to the State Tournament in Bismarck set for November 20 through 22. The second and third place teams will advance to state qualifier matches set for Saturday, Nov. 15 at Bismarck St. Mary’s starting at 1:00 p.m. with the Region 3 #2 vs. the Region 4 #3 and followed by the Region 4 #2 vs. the Region 3 #3.
