Blue Jay Girls’ Season Ends At Region Play-In Game

The Stanley Blue Jays girls’ varsity basketball team had their final regular season game at home on Monday, Feb. 17 when they hosted Nedrose, losing by a score of 39 to 48. With the loss, the Blue Jays had to face a play-in game for the region tournament against Dunseith. They traveled to Dunseith on Thursday, Feb. 20, dropping that game by a score of 48 to 53 to end their season.
Head coach Heath Hetzel said, “We certainly didn’t have the wins this season that we were hoping for, but we learned a lot and made several improvements throughout the year. I’m excited to see what the girls will do in the off season. As a team, we will attend two to three team camps this summer, along with play in the YMCA league in Minot.
Stanley vs. Nedrose
The Blue Jays hosted the Nedrose Cardinals on Monday, Feb. 17, as they played their final regular season game of the year. While Stanley held a two point lead at the end of the first quarter, Nedrose outscored the Blue Jays by twelve in the second quarter on their way to the 48 to 39 win.
As a team, Stanley made 15 of their 46 two point attempts and 2 of their 17 three point attempts. They converted 3 of their 6 free throw attempts. Nedrose made 15 of their 36 two point, 2 of their 17 three point, and 12 of their 24 free throw attempts.
The Blue Jays had 14 offensive and 29 defensive rebounds. They had 11 assists, 14 steals and 3 blocks. They committed 25 turnovers. The Cardinals had 12 offensive and 30 defensive rebounds, 10 assists, 15 steal, 4 blocks and committed 24 turnovers.
Annie Roise led the team with 12 points, followed by Lexi Neset with 10, Taya Niemitalo with 7, CeeJay Bohmbach with 6, and Brinley Larson with 4.
