Blue Jay Girls In Action At Nedrose Tournament
Stanley’s varsity girls’ basketball team was in action at the Nedrose Tournament last week. They met up with the Berthold Bombers in their first game on Tuesday, Dec. 10, dropping the game with a score of 35 to 65. They rebounded in their second game on Friday, Dec. 13 against North Prairie, coming out with the 50 to 43 win. In the fifth place game against Our Redeemers, the Blue Jays came up short with the 49 to 80 loss.
First place in the tournament went to Berthold, followed by Garrison in second, Surrey in third, Nedrose in fourth, Our Redeemer’s in fifth, Stanley in sixth, North Prairie in seventh and the Minot sophomores in eighth.
Stanley vs. Berthold
In their first action of the tournament on Tuesday, Dec. 10, the Blue Jays met up with the Berthold Bombers. Berthold held a two point lead at the end of the first quarter, but extended their lead to fourteen at the half. A strong third quarter allowed Berthold to extend their lead on their way to the 65 to 35 victory.
As a team, Stanley made 15 of their 47 two point attempts for 32% and 1 of their 8 three point attempts for 13%. They made 2 of their 4 free throws for 50%. Berthold converted 24 of their 51 two point attempts, 3 of their 16 three point attempts, and 8 of their 13 free throw attempts.
The Blue Jays had 14 offensive and 23 defensive rebounds. They had 13 assists, 8 steals and 3 blocks. They committed 27 turnovers. Berthold had 19 offensive and 25 defensive rebounds. They had 17 assists, 21 steals, 5 blocks and committed 18 turnovers.
Taya Niemitalo led the team with 13 points, followed by Annie Roise with 10, Tylie Johnson with 4, and Lexi Neset, Payton Lystad, CeeJay Bohmbach and Brinley Larson with 2 each.
Tylie Johnson had 9 rebounds, followed by Taya Niemitalo with 7, Annie Roise with 5, Lexi Neset with 4, Payton Lystad and Brinley Larson with 3 each, and Harley DeTienne with 2.

Stanley vs. North Prairie
In their second game on Friday, Dec. 13, the Blue Jays met up with North Prairie, looking to get back in the win column. Stanley held a six point lead at the end of the first quarter, with North Prairie cutting that lead to six at the half and four at the end of three quarters. The Blue Jays held on to win by a score of 50 to 43.
As a team, Stanley made 20 of their 50 two point attempts for 40% and 2 of their 9 three point attempts for 22%. They converted 4 of their 8 free throw attempts for 50%. North Prairie made 15 of their 55 two point attempts, 1 of their 11 three point attempts and 12 of their 20 free throw attempts.
The Blue Jays had 17 offensive and 23 defensive rebounds. They had 12 assists, 9 steals and 2 blocks. They committed 24 turnovers. North Prairie had 28 offensive and 17 defensive rebounds, 5 assists, 8 steals, 1 block and committed 19 turnovers.
