Blue Jay Boys Win Two Of Three
The Stanley varsity boys’ basketball team was looking to get back in the win column last week with three games on their schedule. They took care of business at home, defeating the Watford City Wolves on Monday, Jan. 6 and the New Town Eagles on Thursday, Jan. 9. They lost on the road to Dickinson Trinity on Saturday, Jan. 11.
Stanley vs. Watford City
Stanley hosted Watford City on Monday, Jan. 6. The Blue Jays started out strong, holding a seven point lead at the end of the first quarter. A strong second quarter extended their lead to eighteen at the half on their way to the 81 to 57 victory.
As a team, the Blue Jays made 30 of their 46 two point attempts and 3 of their 14 three point attempts. They converted 12 of their 14 free throw attempts. The Wolves made 11 of their 27 two point, 11 of their 20 three point, and 2 of their 4 free throw attempts.
Stanley had 12 offensive and 17 defensive rebounds, 19 assists and 15 steals. They committed 12 turnovers. Watford City had 7 offensive and 14 defensive rebounds, 17 assists, 6 steals, 1 block and committed 25 turnovers.
Drake Schlosser led the team with 40 points, followed by Ben Hynek with 16, Bennett Larson with 13, Austin Kanenwisher and Kade Snyder with 5 each, and Jevon Johnson with 2.
Bennett Larson had 10 rebounds, followed by Drake Schlosser with 5, Kade Snyder with 4, Ben Hynek and Jevon Johnson with 3 each, and Caleb Mortenson with 1.

Stanley vs. New Town
The Blue Jays were home for the second time last week as they hosted the New Town Eagles. The Blue Jays held a thirteen point lead at the end of the first quarter, extending it to nineteen at the half. While the Eagles would make a run in the fourth quarter, it was not enough with the Blue Jays claiming the 67 to 60 victory.
As a team, Stanley made 24 of their 42 two point attempts and 4 of their 10 three point attempts. They converted 7 of their 12 free throws. New Town made 11 of their 33 two point attempts and 10 of their 29 three point attempts. They converted 8 of their 13 free throw attempts.
The Blue Jays had 11 offensive and 31 defensive rebounds. They had 15 assists and 4 steals. They committed 20 turnovers. New Town had 11 offensive and 16 defensive rebounds. They had 12 assists, 14 steals, 4 blocks and committed 11 turnovers.
