Blue Jay Boys Open Season With Win Over Beulah

Stanley’s varsity boys’ basketball team opened their season on the road on Friday, Dec. 13 as they traveled to Beulah. The Blue Jays came out with the 53 to 42 win.
Head coach Kory Anderson said, “Overall it was not a bad game. We hit a couple of our target stats that we think we need to hit in order to win. Those stats are scoring 30+ points in the paint, we had 30 this game; and being under 20% turnover rate and we were right at 20. As a team we would like to shoot free throws at 70%. We shot 9 for 16 for 56% we’d like to increase that.
Bennett Larson finished the game by going 6 for 6 from the foul line. Bennett has been working hard every practice to improve this area from last year.
Defense played well most of the night. Drake Schlosser was given the task to guard Brayden Schirado who is an all-state caliber player. He held him to 9/25 shooting.
At times we over helped and will need to fix that going forward.”
As a team, Stanley made 16 of their 34 two point attempts for 47% and 4 of their 13 three point attempts for 31%. They converted 9 of their 16 free throws for 56%. That compared to 14 of 25 two point and 2 of 31 three point attempts. They made 8 of their 10 free throws.
The Blue Jays had 40 total rebounds, including 10 offensive and 29 defensive boards. They had 12 assists, 2 blocks and 1 steal. They committed 12 turnovers.
Drake Schlosser led the team with 25 points, followed by Bennett Larson with 16, Ben Hynek with 6, Austin Kanenwisher with 5 and Jevon Johnson with 1.
