Work Continues To Deal With Main Street Building

More than two weeks after fire destroyed the building on Main Street, work continues to clean up the property. Crews were putting security fence around the building last week to keep the site secure and keep the location as safe as possible.
Building owner Jordan Kannianen says that with the investigation still ongoing, the site has not yet been released for demolition and clean up. He looks forward to getting that taken care of as soon as the investigation is concluded and access to the site is granted.
The early morning fire on Saturday, Feb. 22 destroyed the building, leaving three families without a home and having lost their belongings. The fire also destroyed the businesses on the main floor.
No actual fire damage was incurred by surrounding buildings, but they have sustained water and smoke damage.
The fire led to the relocation of BNC National Bank to City Hall last week. The bank is offering limited hours daily for their customers, using one of the meeting spaces at City Hall as a temporary location. City police officers provide security during the hours as well. They will remain in City Hall until they are able to get back in their own building.
Businesses impacted included Tara Nardacci’s Quilting and Sewing studio; Gina and Wayne Footh’s photography and videography studio Lostwood Media; Desirae Nance’s gift and floral shop Thoughtful Memories LLC, and Rebecca Garcia’s beauty and cosmetic shop Móca by becc.
Next door to the north, the Rustic Bean was also affected. The satellite branches on the frontage road and their location in Ace Hardware have remained open.
There are several options to support those that were impacted as businesses or renters. They include three different go fund me accounts that were set up: for the families, https://gofund.me/bdd96c91; for Lostwood Studios: https://gofund.me/e45d417f www.venmo.com/gina-footh; and for Thoughtful Memories: https://gofund.me/e583ac03. In addition, donations have been accepted by several places including the American Lutheran Church in Stanley. A benefit for Gina and Wayne Footh is set for Sunday, Mar. 23 at Gooseneck Implement in Stanley from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
