Work Continues At MCMC, ER Work Complete

Work Continues At MCMC, ER Work Complete

Work continues to progress on the new nursing home at Mountrail County Health Center. The first phase of the construction is a new 36 bed nursing home, including ten basic care rooms, the same number of beds as the current nursing home.
That work is now getting closer to completion as crews are on track to complete the construction phase for the start of the new year. Once complete, they will still have four to six weeks left on their construction deadline. That will give them time to address any punchlist items, clean and get ready for the health department inspections.
Walking through the new nursing home, rooms are taking shape. Each room has its own bathroom and shower, with the spaces designed to accommodate any of the residents’ needs. This accounts for part of the 50 bathrooms that are part of the new facility.
The rooms are twenty to thirty square feet larger than the original nursing home rooms. The double rooms are set up in a way to allow for either two separate sleeping spaces or combining both beds into one side and allowing for a living space on the other side. Two rooms are also considered bariatric rooms, which will allow for special needs when it comes to bathrooms and shower needs.
The new family spaces and gathering spaces are taking shape, as are the outdoor spaces and landscaping.
Once the certificate of occupancy is received, rooms will be set up so that the residents are able to move into their new home. Residents will get their first look inside the construction after that certificate of occupancy is received. While it may look like there is a lot of work to be done, the big things are on track according to McGough Construction.
Meanwhile, crews have also completed the new emergency room entrance and ambulance bay. Work on that project wrapped up on Monday, Oct. 6, which now moves the entrance to the ER back to the normal location.
The ambulance bay by the emergency room was extended to accommodate the larger sizes of the newer ambulances. The new bay has heated floors. The concrete outside is also heated to avoid ice buildup. A new waiting room by the emergency room was added as well.
On the hospital side, renovations will start once the nursing home portion is finished. Demolition of the old nursing home wing will start at the end of April, allowing the next phase to get underway. Summer will see work begin on the new MRI and infusion suite, along with the specialty clinic.
Purchasing will be moving from the basement to the upper level. The downstairs area will be renovated to accommodate a new specialty clinic that will allow the facility to bring in more specialists. It will also include a minor procedure room.
The final phase of construction will be the addition of seven new apartments to Rosen Place in 2027. The assisted living facility currently has a waiting list of 31, showing the need for the new apartments. These will all be single apartments based on the footprint space available. These apartments will be located along the rest of the current south wing of the nursing home. The Rosen Place addition is the final part of construction. The entire project calls for completion in 2028.
The Mountrail County Health Foundation Partnering For The Future Campaign continues to accept donations from the public including the ability to donate on their website: www.mountrailcountyhealthfoundation.org/how-you-can-help. They are working to raise the remaining $3 million needed for the nursing home portion of the project.
