White Earth Valley Saddle Club Summer Draft Horse Challenge Results

White Earth Valley Saddle Club Summer Draft Horse Challenge Results

White Earth Valley Saddle Club hosted its summer Draft Horse Challenge on June 28 at the rodeo grounds in White Earth.
Kathy Baer took home first place, also receiving first place in the Obstacle Challenge; Wyatt Nichols received second, with second place finishes in both Obstacle Challenge and Log Skid; rounding out the top three finishers was Phil Newman, driving Duke and Don.
First place in Log Skid went to Taylor Rovig, driving Bonnie and Clyde, and Barrels champion was Doug Feiring, driving Dick and Don.
In the Youth category, Ty Nichols earned his way to first place, driving the Woodbury team to Thelma and Louise, and first place in both Obstacle Challenge and Barrels. Kinsey Woodbury took second, also with Thelma and Louise, and received first place in Log Skid. Tylada Nichols, Lucas Ottesen, and Tuff Newman rounded out the Youth category.
The Pony category was won by Katie Woodbury, driving mini pony, Sugar.
The event was judged by John Woodbury and tabulated by Julie Woodbury.
The Draft Horse Challenge series is a great place to learn to drive or get a new team started. After the event, John hitched up his old team, Thelma and Louise, and tied one-year-old geldings, Thunder and Storm, to them to teach the yearlings how to drive. They learn to work together as a team, with the older team as coaches, learning to pull together, walk faster or slower depending on the path taken, and to stay close together without getting in each other’s way.
