When A Community Comes Together

Life in a small town often brings out the best in people and that could be seen last weekend when two different events were held to raise funds for Nathan Weyrauch and his family.
A dart tournament was held at The Beach Bar in Stanley on Saturday. The tournament was scheduled to be a 50% payout to winners with the other 50% going to the fundraiser. Generosity of winners donating prizes back helped to increase the funds raised.
The fundraiser moved to the South Complex on Sunday starting with a chili cook-off. Teams turned out in great numbers to show off their cooking skills. The chili, along with donated hot dogs and more, were served to the public for a free will donation. There was also a silent auction, bar by The Leader and music by George Littlecreek.
Organizers are thankful to Nathan and Mackenzie’s families for being there and their support. They are also grateful to The Pursuit, American Lutheran Church, the chili cook-off participants, the donors and bidders for the silent auction, The Beach Bar, The Leader Bar, the South Complex and the dart tournament participants for their support. They note that it took the whole community to make this happen and there are too many people and businesses to possibly list.
The fundraisers are underway to offset medical costs for Nate Weyrauch, who was the victim of an assault in January that resulted in severe brain trauma. He underwent emergency brain surgery and began his recovery process. He is now continuing that rehab and recovery at Craig Hospital. Nate has a long road of recovery ahead of him, and these events were set up by community members to help support him and his family. The two events over the weekend raised approximately $60,000. A GoFundMe for the family was also established, raising just over $40,000 to date.
