Township Officers Hold Fall Meeting

Township Officers Hold Fall Meeting

The Mountrail County Township Officers Association held their fall meeting on Wednesday, Nov. 16 at the Mountrail County South Complex in Stanley. The meeting included updates from several entities.
Mountrail County Commissioner Wayne Olson updated the members on increased cost share for large culvert replacement and repair for townships. He also reported that township contracts for road maintenance have increased this year but still remain a good option for townships.
Building projects include the updates and renovations at the Memorial Building as well as new cooling systems installed at the Courthouse to address the older areas of the building as well as to improve air quality.
Olson also reported the county has dropped their mill levies again this year with oil and gas revenue still increasing.
Mountrail County Commissioner Trudy Ruland talked about the LoadPass system, reminding townships that their roads are under the township jurisdiction and the commissioners support them in that.
If townships have any questions or concerns about the LoadPass system, she encouraged them to reach out to her. Most townships are utilizing the system, which helps to get notices out with road closures as well as helping identify which roads are considered haul roads in the townships. She said that the key is to keep the Road and Bridge Department updated. She also discussed the notification system which updates on issues with roads and more throughout all the townships.
County Commissioner Jason Rice spoke on the county’s newly forming Transportation/Roads Advisory (TRAC) Committee. This committee will include two road and bridge personnel, one planning and zoning person and one person from each of the four quarters of the county. This advisory committee will look at the county’s roads and needs, providing input for direction on those needs. The county is looking for a volunteer from each of those quarters to serve on the committee.
More information and the member applications are available on the County’s Road and Bridge webpage and at the Road and Bridge department. The deadline for applications is December 16 with the commissioners to appoint the committee at their January 3, 2023 meeting.
