This past Wednesday, the Stanley Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) chapter hosted a Financial Literacy Boot Camp for the junior and senior classes, offering students a valuable opportunity to prepare for financial independence after high school.
The event featured eight 20-minute sessions covering key financial topics, including saving for retirement, insurance, the basics of banking, credit, taxes, college financing, budgeting and loans. Students rotated between sessions led by community experts who shared practical knowledge and real-world advice.
The goal of the boot camp was to equip students with essential financial skills to help them navigate adulthood with confidence. The event was made possible through the generous support of local businesses and organizations, including Brandi Larson Agency, Cornerstone Bank, Bravera, Thrivent, Norman M. Mell and Associates PC, Minot state University, and Town and Country Credit Union.
Special recognition goes to FBLA members Payton Lystad and Erika Littlefield, who spearheaded the planning and execution of the event. Their dedication ensured that their peers received a meaningful and educational experience.

Heath Hetzel, one of the presenters, emphasized the importance of financial literacy, stating, “Students had great questions, and it was rewarding to share my knowledge and experiences. I felt they were engaged and truly found value in interacting with community members about these subjects.”
Thanks to these community partnerships, Stanley High School students gained practical insights and tools that will undoubtedly benefit them as they prepare for the transition to adulthood and financial independence.
