New Town Celebrates 75th Anniversary
The city of New Town celebrated its 75th Anniversary on Saturday, Aug. 29, with a full day of events to commemorate the occasion.
Events kicked off with the celebration parade and the opening of vendor booths. The Venue was open sharing the history of New Town and the communities that came together when the Garrison Dam was built.
Activities for kids and those attending included inflatables, a three on three basketball tournament, a corn hole tournament and tours of the high school and its new additions. Missing Lynx was performing on Main Street during the afternoon.
The ribbon cutting for the new City Hall, Police Department and The Venue were held at the City Hall with guests able to tour the new facility.
Artists were hard at work painting benches that were auctioned off in the afternoon to raise money for the restoration of New Town’s historic 451 Soo Line train monument.
MHA Tourism cultural dancers performed as well, with the day wrapping up with a dance.
Over the past 75 years, New Town has grown and transformed while remaining a strong, welcoming community. From the oil boom and the opening of the casino, to the revitalization of Main Street and new businesses, each chapter has helped shape the town.
As they celebrated the seventy-five year milestone, they honored those who built the foundation, recognized those strengthening the community today, and look forward to the generations yet to come.
