New DON At Rosen Place
A new director of nursing has taken over at Rosen Place on 8th as of two weeks ago, but hers is not a new face to patients and residents. Lindsey Fladeland is the new DON, but she has worked at MCMC for nine years. She started as a CNA at Mountrail Bethel Home while in high school, graduating from Stanley High School in 2019. She had her undergraduate studies in pre-nursing and then completed nursing school in Minot through Dakota College at Bottineau, graduating in 2024 with her RN license. She worked in the emergency room and hospital for the following two years. She also has her certified medication aide designation and has done some traveling coverage as a med aide.
As the new DON, she will coordinate activities, make appointments for residents, do assessments, handle medication orders for each person and take care of staff schedules. Essentially, she will oversee the day to day operations of the assisted living facility. That will include having meetings with those interested in having one of the apartments. She will give them tours of the facility and help them plan for admissions and the paperwork, as well as what to expect.
She has also been spending time trying to fill the three open apartments, two two-bedroom and one one-bedroom unit. Although they have an extensive waiting list, they remain open as those on the list have indicated they are not yet ready to make the move.
Rosen Place works to encourage and support independence for their residents, having them do as much as possible for themselves. Some of their residents still drive. She says that sometimes people have the misconception that assisted living is like a nursing home, but it is rather designed to help as part of the continuum of care in the community.
She is looking to expand activities, saying that she wants the residents to have things to do each day. She would like to have more people come in and offer activities with the residents. She would like to add Sunday bible studies. She also wants to add to the places residents can go. All of that makes for a fuller experience for those residents, often offering the things they would do if they were still in their own homes. She asked residents what they would like to see and that included arts and crafts, quilting, going for drives and scheduling day trips.
She says that she wanted this position as DON because she used to work in the facility as a med aide. She found the job and facility relaxing, able to do more one on one with residents. She says that she likes the ability to engage with those residents more.
She enjoys the environment, saying it is not as stressful as work in the ER. She enjoys coming into work. It doesn’t feel like work and the day flies by with everything she does to work with the residents.
Lindsey and her husband Ty, live in Stanley with their two boys, one almost two years old and one two months old.
Rosen Place’s goal and mission says that home should still be home. Our parents and grandparents helped build this community. Let’s make sure they can continue to call it home.
Assisted living needs don’t arrive on a schedule. A family may not need an apartment today, but tomorrow, everything can change. When that happens, they want the answer to be, “Yes. We have a place for you here.” Population shifts indicate that the total number of assisted living beds needed in Mountrail County will increase to 27 by 2029. With nearly 30% of North Dakota’s population projected to be over 60 by 2030, a 41% increase from 2012, Rosen Place’s services are crucial. More than 30 people have expressed interest in calling Rosen Place home when the need arises. Their timelines may be different, but it still tells us our community will need more assisted-living options in the years ahead. To meet that need, as part of the construction project at Mountrail County Health Center, seven more one-bedroom apartments will be built for Rosen Place. The mission is to provide residential-style accommodations and individualized support services for seniors, combining independence with 24/7 personal care. Fundraising continues for this and other portions of the project that remains on schedule. The new Rosen Place apartments are anticipated for completion in the fall of 2027.
