National Western Roundup Horse Judging Results

Mountrail County and North Dakota were represented by some talented young ladies during the weekend of January 9-11. Congratulations on making it to the national level.
They judged ten classes: Trail, Western Horsemanship, Ranch Rail, Ranch Riding, Hunt Seat Equitation, Hunter Under Saddle, Reining, Performance Halter Mares, Performance Halter Geldings, and Clydesdales.
They were asked to give four sets of oral reasons on Trail, Horsemanship, Hunter Under Saddle, and Halter Mares. The Denver Coliseum was a wonderful venue for the contest and the horses were provided by several Colorado Ranches that show in AQHA, NHRA, and APHA.
These ladies are using the same judging rule book and tools that AQHA judges use at national shows such as AQHA Worlds, American Congress, and Run for a Million.
Following the contest they were also able to attend the Performance Horse Showdown at the Event Center in Denver which included Reining, Steer Stopping, and Working Cowhorse Fence Work. They were able to see some of the top riders and horses in the nation perform at the National Western Stockshow.
Sidney Enerson placed 3rd in Halter, 13th in Performance, 29th in Reasons, and 9th Overall; Riley placed 8th in Halter, 36th in Performance, 9th in Reasons, and 36th Overall; Marli Honrud placed 21st in Halter, 32nd in Performance, 17th in Reasons, and 31st Overall; Ziva Ottesen placed 28th in Halter, 35th in Performance, 26th in Reasons, and 35th Overall. The Team placed 2nd in Halter, 10th in Performance, 7th in Reasons, and 10th Overall. We are very proud of our team, Sidney Enerson, Marli Honrud, Ziva Ottesen, and Riley. As freshman and sophomores in high school, these ladies had some tough competition at nationals going up against many that are seniors or freshman in college.
They would also like to express their gratitude to the community for supporting travel funding. The donations received are much appreciated to allow these girls to attend nationals and make lots of memories along the way.
Thank you to the parents as it takes a team effort to coordinate practice and travel. Special thank you to Mountrail County 4-H Council for financial assistance for travel expenses.
The team was coached by Ilene Enerson and Katie Woodbury.
