Meats Classes Return To South Complex

Meats Classes Return To South Complex

The first of six scheduled classes was held at the Mountrail County South Complex on Wednesday, Jan. 8 as Mountrail County Ag Agent Jim Hennessy is offering his meat classes to the public. These classes are some of the most popular in the area and bring both new and returning participants each year. Wednesday’s class was a country sausage making class.
The hands on classes teach the basics of meat handling and preparing from field to table. Participants learn the advantages of using different types of meats, seasonings, casings, add-ins and more. Each class focuses on different meats, but the premise is the same as they focus on both safety and great ways to make these products at home.
Future classes will include a summer sausage class on Wednesday, Jan. 22 starting at 5:00 p.m. at the Mountrail County South Complex in Stanley. There is a jerky making class set for Wednesday, Feb. 12 starting at 5:00 p.m. also at the Mountrail County South Complex in Stanley. Two classes are set to be held in Plaza as well this year. The first, on Wednesday, Feb. 26, will be a brats making class starting at 5:00 p.m. The second is a buck bacon and Canadian bacon class set for Wednesday, Mar. 12 starting at 5:00 p.m. The final class is set for Wednesday, Mar. 26 at 5:00 p.m. back at the Mountrail County South Complex in Stanley and will be a dry aging/hard salami class.
Preregistration for the classes is required as well as prepayment for the classes. You can register by contacting the Mountrail County Ag Agency at 701-628-2835. More information about class availability can also be found on the Mountrail County Ag Agency Facebook page.
Preregistration and prepayment are required no later than the Friday before the session. Youth and adult registrations are accepted. Recommended age of attendance is 10 years and older.
Participants in all classes get sample products throughout the evening. They also get to take home what they make over the course of the night.
