Meats Classes Benefit School And Community

Meats Classes Benefit School And Community

Mountrail County Agent Jim Hennessy offers meat classes to the community throughout the year. He also works with Bailey Hawbaker’s high school ag classes each year.
The Ag 2 classes were at the South Complex on Wednesday, Mar. 8 and Thursday, Mar. 9. The students were there to learn how to cure hams. They started out by trimming and preparing the hams, and then collaborated to create their own cure and injection recipes. The hams are judged to choose the best one. They are then prepared and will be served at the annual FFA Banquet set for March 30.
Hennessy also held a public ham curing class that was open to adults and children. They were also able to trim and prepare their hams, as well as curing and injecting them so they could then be smoked.
Hennessy has a hands on brat and polish sausage making class currently scheduled for Wednesday, Apr. 19 at 5:00 p.m. at the Mountrail County Plaza Complex. To register for the class you can call the Mountrail County Ag Agency at 701-628-2835, extension #2. Preregistration is needed so they can make sure they have the right amount of materials available. If there are not enough people preregistered, the class may be cancelled.
