Leith Honored For Years Of Coaching

At halftime of the Blue Jays football game versus DLB on Friday, Oct. 17, attention turned to the field for a special award presentation to recognize long-time coach Dave Leith. He has been recognized by the ND High School Coaches Association for his commitment to coaching for 30 years. Leith has dedicated almost half his life to the program he loves.
In 1995, Jerry Nichols brought Leith on as an assistant junior high coach. The following year, he took over as head coach of the junior high program. The first group of athletes he coached went on to win the state title in 1999. Leith coached at the junior high level for fifteen years, before moving into an assistant role at the varsity level. Here he coached alongside his good friend and long-time head coach Lyne Enget for many years.
Over the course of the years, Leith has contributed to three state titles and several regional appearances. In 2023, Leith took over as head varsity football coach. His first year as head coach, he more than doubled the roster of players, had a winning season, and the program made its first playoff appearance in eight years.
More important than the accolades is the impact he has had on the thousands of players he has coached over the years. He is a role model on and off the field. He is a mentor and friend. He is a man of faith, dignity and respect. In the words of some of his fellow coaches, Dave is “a leader of men, he loves the game, and he loves the boys he coaches”.
Leith was joined on the field by his family, past and present coaches, and past and present players as he was presented his 30 year award. Chase Enget was selected to make the presentation.
