Irrigation Project Begins At Golf Course

The irrigation project at the Prairie Rose Golf Course in Stanley is finally in full swing. Traut Irrigation of Jamestown is the main contractor with the project breaking ground on Monday, July 21. This phase of work is expected to take at least six weeks with considerable time for relandscaping after the project is complete.
The current system was fifty years old and in dire need of replacement. The new system and water upgrades will produce better coverage and water management. It is also a fully digital system, making it far more effective and efficient.
As the project got underway a couple of new obstacles surfaced. One of those obstacles was a considerable amount of rock that makes it necessary to backhoe most of the water lines. As a result, it became necessary to disable the current water system. That makes manual watering of the greens and tee boxes necessary.
There will be temporary disruptions throughout the course, but it will remain open during construction. The Prairie Rose Golf Club board is asking all golfers to play safely and wisely. Selective holes will be closed periodically.
The project has seen great support to this point. It was primarily made possible with generous support from the Mountrail County Job Development Authority and donations. The PRGC will be asking members and community organizations to consider helping to make this project a reality through monetary donations. The project will have an immediate need to raise at least $75,000 to fulfill the golf course’s commitment on funding the project. A temporary donor board is on display in the clubhouse and a letter will be sent to present and past members.
PRGC has a great need for willing golfers to volunteer for manual water duties, removing rock from the trenched areas, and placing sand in the bottom of the trenches.
