Golden Age Club Receives AED
The Golden Age Club in Stanley received an AED as a donation from the Mountrail County Health Foundation during their noon meal on Monday, Dec. 2.
Mountrail County Health Center DNP Tara Nardacci was on hand to provide training for proper use of the machine. She also indicated she would be willing to come back and offer a CPR class if there was enough interest from their members.
The Golden Age Club expressed their appreciation for the donation and the training that was provided on its use.
The Golden Age Club is open to members ages 55 and over, as well as memberships available for those younger. Associate members pay the same annual dues, but are not able to vote at the board meetings.
The Club offers noon meals every Monday and Friday and an evening meal every other Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. With around 120 members and 10 associate members, the club sees good numbers at their weekly meals. They serve all home cooked meals and last summer were averaging 50 to 60 members on Fridays, with 20 to 25 at the other two meals. They have also started to invite area clubs to join them in their events.
While many associate the Golden Age Club with their weekly meals, they also offer many other activities for club members. They have taken trips to Medora and to Minot State symphony concerts. They recently went to Bismarck for the riverboat cruise with New Town Senior Citizen club members joining them. They host card parties during the winter and they also held a Super Bowl party last winter. President Allen Tillinghast has also been able to provide a bus from the school for their trips.
They are also hoping to encourage members to stay after the meals for card playing and games as well as visiting.
The Golden Age Club has also gone back to using the North Dakota Community Foundation, so they are set up now where you can donate to the club and receive the charitable tax credit. As they move forward, they are looking to establish a wall of honor to honor deceased members and share information and pictures from their birthday parties and club activities. They are looking at a system similar to that in use by the Stanley High School and that will be their next major fundraising project.
They invite those that are not current members to come and check out what the club has to offer and to enjoy the recent updates to the facility.
