Emergency Crews Respond To Gas Leak

Stanley Volunteer Fire Department and Stanley Police Department responded to a natural gas leak that happened in the construction area for the new ambulance bay and ER entrance at the Mountrail County Medical Center on Tuesday, July 1. They secured the scene until MDU arrived to clamp the line. Officers provided traffic control and were ready in the case of a needed evacuation.
According to a release from the Stanley Police Department, the fast thinking of Dr. Longmuir and his knowledge of the hospital’s infrastructure allowed him to shut down the air handlers, protecting the hospital and nursing home from further damage. They were able to shelter in place and not have to evacuate any of the patients or residents.
The scene was cleared by midafternoon as the gas leak was handled.
