Draft Horse Challenge Returns To White Earth

Draft Horse Challenge Returns To White Earth

The summer Draft Horse Challenge sponsored by the White Earth Valley Saddle Club was held on Saturday, June 29 at the White Earth Valley Rodeo grounds. Thirteen contestants took part in this year’s challenges. Contestants took their shot at the obstacle course, the log skid and the cloverleaf barrels.
Winners were as follows:
Wyatt Grubb with Lacey and Michelle took first place in the obstacle course, followed by Kathy Baer with Karl and Johannes in second, and Jade Gores with Royal and Smokey in third.
In the Log Skid, Jade Gores was first, followed by Whitt Bagley with Bill and Eric in second. There was a tie for third with Wyatt Nichols with Angus and Arrow, and Wyatt Grubb.
In the Cloverleaf Barrels Whitt Bagley was first with a fast 30 seconds, followed by Kathy Baer in second, and Wyatt Grubb in third.
Overall Results for the day saw Wyatt Grubb and Whitt Bagley tied for first and second; and Jade Gores and Kathy Baer tied for third and fourth.
Other teams competing included John Woodbury with T and Jenny; Ty Nichols in youth with Thelma and Louise; Julie Woodbury with Thelma and Louise, Doug Feiring with Dick and Don, Tylada Nichols in youth with Angus and Arrow, Taylor Rovig with Bonnie, and Vanessa Rovig with Bonnie.
Judges this year were James Skalisky and Brenda Sjostrom. John Woodbury did the announcing and everyone helps each other out throughout the challenges.
The event, held both in the fall and summer, is an opportunity for people to get a good look at the hard working draft horse teams and the skills they and their handlers have developed. People in the area frequently see these teams at community events, often participating in parades or offering wagon rides. This, however, is a different look at the teams.
The next Draft Horse Challenge will be September 30th.
