Building Coming Down On Main Street

After fire destroyed the building at 208 S. Main Street in February, it has been a waiting game for a decision on when the building would come down. On Monday, Mar. 31, the first of that work began as the crews began site preparation on the alley side of the building. From Tuesday through Friday, work continued on the back of the building as debris was removed from the way the building collapsed on that side. Multiple loads were taken each day to dispose of the debris. On Saturday, Apr. 5, work began to demolish the rest of the building with the first bites taken from the brick that morning. By evening, the building had been brought down to nearly street level. Work should continue this week and then it will remain to be seen what is done with the lot it occupied. It will also give both BNC Bank to the south and Rustic Bean to the north a chance to see what needs to be done with their buildings as owners should be able to start assessing any damages and impacts. BNC Bank has been operating with limited hours in a temporary location at Stanley City Hall since the fire. The Rustic Bean has been closed, with operations still continuing at their location in Ace Hardware and the trailer along the frontage road.
