BIO Girls In Stanley Completes Service Project

BIO Girls has been offered in Stanley this year for girls in grades two through six. The twelve week program started in August and will wrap up in November with each week’s session held at the American Lutheran Church in Stanley.
On Tuesday, Sept. 23, they had their sixth session which focused on completing a service project. The girls, along with their mentors and site director, were painting and creating on their Kindness Rock Service Project. Once completed, they were then walking around the community distributing those kindness rocks to “spread kindness around the parks, walking paths and other areas.
BIO stands for Beautiful Inside & Out. Sessions consist of large group devotion and discussion on weekly lessons, followed by small groups working with mentors with discussion and lessons in journals, ending with non-competitive physical activity working towards the end goal to run/walk a 5K at the finale event. A Service Project is also part of BIO Girls during their sixth session. The program teaches them about mental wellness, healthy relationships, leadership, kindness, and non-competitive physical activity through the strategies of mentoring, peer connection and community service.
This is their first year in Stanley with twelve girls participating, along with five mentors, a marketing lead and site director. Director Lisa Wolla says they are excited to offer the program in Stanley and hope that it will continue to grow in the future. They chose to start their session this year in August, but may reevaluate to a spring session. That will depend on what fits best with everyone’s schedule. They look forward to many more years to get the program established in the community.
This year’s session participants are training to complete a 5K which will be taking place on Saturday, Nov. 1.
BIO Girls curriculum is evidence-based and research-proven. They equip participants with the skills necessary to combat societal pressures and recognize their inherent values. The program is currently available in North Dakota, Minnesota, South Dakota, Iowa and Wisconsin.
Founded in 2013 in Fargo, N.D., BIO Girls has grown to positively impact thousands of girls each year across the five-state region through its volunteer-led, 12-week program for girls in grades 2 through 6. By blending life-skills lessons, small-group mentoring, and non-competitive physical activity, BIO Girls empowers participants to navigate societal pressures, understand their worth, manage stress, and choose kindness. Backed by research, the program has consistently demonstrated a significant boost in participants’ self-esteem. To learn more about how BIO Girls is making a difference, visit biogirls.org.
