Annual Home And Garden Show Held In Stanley

The Mountrail County Garden Club and NDSU Extension Service Mountrail County hosted the ninth annual home and garden show last weekend. The event was held over two days again this year, with all the activities held in the Mountrail County South Complex as vendor numbers were down this year.
Events started in the afternoon on Friday, Apr. 25 and then continued in the morning on Saturday, Apr. 26 started at 9:00 a.m. Both days were filled with vendors for both home and garden projects, as well as direct sales and craft/homemade items.
There were a number of workshops and activities scheduled during the Home and Garden show for both adults and kids.
Friday started with Julie Woodbury giving a presentation on making sourdough bread. That was followed with Wanda Nelson showing those attending how to make gazing balls/garden globes from old bowling balls.
Saturday’s sessions started with Trudy Ruland giving those attending a Backyard Chickens 101. That was followed by Nicki Maruskie’s presentation to unlock the secrets of African Violet Propagation. The final seminar featured Emily How on getting a feel for your garden soil. Those attending learned about soil texture, testing and working with your soil.
Returning this year was the 4-H Project Expo, giving 4-H’ers a chance to show off their informational skills. The 4-H Clothing Revue was cancelled.
This Home and Garden Show is just one of the projects the Mountrail County Garden Club helps with throughout the community. Those include a community garden, the Main Street flower barrel plantings, landscaping around the Stanley Signs, the Butterfly Garden south of the Fair Building and the Farmer’s Market.
