A Country Music Legend Comes To Stanley

A Country Music Legend Comes To Stanley

The Sibyl Center in Stanley was packed on Saturday, Sept. 20 for one of the biggest concerts this year.
The concert was sold out with the crowd treated first to the music of South of Mason. This group performed at the Sibyl Center last year, known then as Texas Stars. They had the audience singing along to country music favorites, gospel and some of their own music. They released their newest album at this concert.
Then it was time for a country music legend. Larry Gatlin took to the stage and entertained the crowd with songs and stories for nearly an hour and a half. Playing with his acoustic guitar, fans were treated to many of the songs that have made him a member of the Country Music Hall of Fame and the Grand Ole Opry. South of Mason joined him on some of those classics as well.
As the concert wrapped up, Mayor Marly Ranum presented Gatlin with the key to the city. Gatlin said he would love to come back to the Sibyl Center and bring his brothers with him next time.
Over the years, the Sibyl Center’s summer performance season has continued to grow, featuring local talent and a growing number of well-known performers. This year’s performance season included the return of the Waddington’s, Hard Day’s Night, Chris Golden and The Browns Celtic Show. New performers included an Elton John, Roy Orbison and Elvis tribute, a James Taylor Tribute and magician/comedian Wes Barker.
One more performance remains on the schedule this year when Rift returns with the dance music of the 70s and 80s on Saturday, Oct. 4 at 7:00 p.m.
