Just My Opinion - by Mary Kilen

All The Seasons In 48 Hours
It was quite a roller coaster ride of weather over the weekend for most of us.
On Friday afternoon I left the office to go to a track meet at the Stanley High School. While the wind was annoying, it was a beautiful afternoon. When Stanley’s track teams were in Watford City earlier in the week, coaches started talking and Stanley offered to host a small meet. It was pretty last minute, but they just couldn’t pass up the predicted great weather to get kids on the track.
It was about 80 degrees while I was out there. It felt like summer and it was glorious.
On Saturday, we had to run into Minot and the weather was still pretty awesome. It was sunny and the wind was less intense. It was cooler than Friday, but it was a great spring day.
Then there was Sunday. I woke up to some rain, cooler temperatures and wind. It didn’t get much better throughout the day. I tried not to pay attention to the snowball size snowflakes falling in the afternoon, but that was impossible. It ended up feeling more like winter than spring as the day went on.
The moisture we got was wonderful. We need more days filled with that kind of gentle falling rain. I could almost hear my grass and perennial plants sighing with relief as the rain fell on them. The grass in our backyard even seems to have greened up some from just that one day’s rain.
I love living in our small town in North Dakota. I just wish we didn’t always get to experience all the seasons in a short period of time.
I probably laughed harder than I should have at a Facebook meme that said, “I’m ready for the rest of this week! I have my umbrella, my suntan lotion, my winter coat, my sunglasses, my flip flops, my thermals, my iced tea, my mittens and my hot chocolate”. If that doesn’t sum up our weather, I’m not sure what does.
