Just My Opinion - By Mary Kilen

I’m Ready For Spring!
I’m fairly certain that Mother Nature has been trying to kill us this month. After a winter where we have seen some cold days, up until February it really hasn’t been all that bad. I mean, we’ve had cold snaps but not as persistent as they have been for the past couple of weeks.
Meanwhile, Mondays have been absolutely horrible. Like I don’t already hate Mondays enough. This morning, Stanley was one of the “winners” with a recorded low of -57 degree windchill. I don’t want to be a winner. More than 40 cities recorded wind chills below fifty degrees on Monday morning. There doesn’t appear to be much improvement for the next couple of days. If I could stay in my house and hibernate, I swear I would.
With any luck after we get through Wednesday of this week, we will indeed see warmer temperatures. The weatherman tells me that we should see an 80 degree change by the weekend with temperatures predicted to be in the 30s and 40s. I hope he’s right.
I’m headed to Fargo on Wednesday for State Wrestling. I’m hoping it starts warming up because I don’t enjoy the sprint from my vehicle to the Fargodome. I prefer to leave my coat in the car, so a few more degrees would be awesome! I’d also like to be sure my car will start each morning.
Meanwhile, here I am whining while sitting in my warm house. I don’t have to be outside all that long. Those that have to work outside in this weather….I can’t imagine. Our area ranchers have started having livestock babies. They are having to watch for those fragile babies in this weather and provide some shelter and comfort for the rest of their herds.
So, for the love of all that is holy, let’s hope this is the last real cold snap of the season. Let’s hope that once the temperatures start to warm up this weekend they at least remain seasonable. Right now, that average February temperature in the upper 20s and low 30s sounds absolutely glorious.
