Just My Opinion - by Mary Kilen
It Must Be Fair Time
After a summer with temperatures up and down, you could tell it was fair time just by watching the weather forecast for last weekend and this week.
It seems like Mother Nature likes to throw in some of the hottest temperatures of the summer when it is time for the North Dakota State Fair. The addition of the humidity doesn’t help either. There’s nothing quite like 90 degree weather with high humidity to make you appreciate those cooler days we had earlier this month.
Dale and I met Amanda, Zach, Carter, Jozie and Abel at the fair on Saturday. It was time for Carter to come for his week and we usually meet at the fair to hand him off to us.
It was toasty on Saturday. We spent part of our time making sure we stayed hydrated and visiting commercial buildings just to cool off. Of course, we did a little shopping while in the buildings, too. There was also some time spent on the midway and stops for some favorite foods.
Dale and I will head back to the fair with Carter on Tuesday and Wednesday. We have the grandstand pass and planned to go to Sawyer Brown. I hadn’t planned on leaving the office before noon on Wednesday to head to the concert, but with the changes in schedule we’ll now be sitting in the grandstands in the afternoon.
We’ll get in more of our favorite foods over the two days, check out some of the free stages, and I’m sure make trips back to the midway during our trips.
Dale will take Carter to meet his mom on Friday for lunch in Minot because Carter’s going camping over the weekend. He’ll trade for Jozie, who will come back home with him for her week. We’ll take her back to the fair on Saturday and go to the Lainey Wilson concert.
It’s going to be a busy two weeks here at our house as both Carter and Jozie visit before the end of the summer.
Thanks Regis Theater!
Dale and I and Carter went to the movie in Stanley on Sunday night. With it being the opening weekend of Twisters, the theater was pretty full.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. We are so lucky to have a local theater manned by volunteers. The prices are so reasonable for both admission and concessions. The theater has spent resources over the past years upgrading the seats, and the systems that run the movie. It is great to be able to take the kids to a movie and then just head home afterwards.
Dale and I will have our weekend at the theater later this fall. Every time I think I’m ready to be done volunteering, I remember the fun and memories we make with our family in that theater. It reminds me why we volunteer, so that other families can have the same enjoyment we have.

I’ve saved a couple of posts my friends have shared the last few weeks.
This one is called “6 sentences that will change your life and mindset” and offers some great advice. The author was not named in the post.
1. Stop telling people everything. Most people don’t care, and some secretly want you to fail.
2. Choose your friends wisely. The fastest way to become better is to surround yourself with better people.
3. Expect nothing, appreciate everything. Be grateful for the little things in your life to find inner peace.
4. Do your best and trust the process. The harder you work, the luckier you will get.
5. Control yourself, not others. Controlling others is strength. Controlling yourself is true power.
6. Learn to react less. When you control your reaction, nobody can manipulate you.
