Two Down, One To Go
We wrapped up Jozie’s week with us on Sunday after packing as much as we possibly could into her week.
We did go to Tioga on Tuesday so Joz could get her hair cut. She and KyAnn spent most of the time she was in the chair just chatting away. The smile on her face when she was done said it all. I’m glad we were able to fit that in for her. We got home and went to Palermo for supper. That is also another treat the kids look forward to.
We went to the Bakken Rocks Cookfest on Thursday in Powers Lake. They had a great turnout and parking was made easier as they were using the field across from the school along with someone helping keep it organized. I’m not sure what Jozie enjoyed more, the food or collecting all the freebies from the tables. She got her bag from Nabors and it was a big bag. She went from table to table checking out the things they had for kids and made quite the haul. We all enjoyed the food as well. With eighteen cook teams, there was something for everyone. We sampled a good share of them. We even had time to hit the pool again after we got home.
Friday and Saturday were fair days. On Friday we had to check out all of the commercial buildings. Jozie has a couple of vendors she looks for each year. There was plenty of fair food and we also hit the rides. I haven’t gone on rides as much the last few years and forgot how fast some of them will go. We were thinking about trying out Pharoah’s Fury, but they seemed to be working on something on it and we decided we weren’t going to be the first ones to go on it after that. We ended our day on the giant ferris wheel and one more food stop.
We went back on Saturday and hit the commercial buildings again. It was a good thing we did because we missed one of our favorite vendors on Friday. We had plenty of fair food and we watched the MHA dancers perform. With the higher temperatures, they were only performing for a half hour instead of the full hour they were scheduled. I completely understood that decision.
We got home early enough that Jozie and I went to the movie. The two of us settled in with our popcorn, pop and candy and enjoyed a quiet end to the day.
We were supposed to meet Amanda on Sunday to hand Jozie off, but Abel had been sick for a few days. Instead, she rode home with Kalli Swenson.
The house is quiet. Buddy is unhappy that another one of his kids has left him. He won’t be lonely for too long. Abel is coming in just under two weeks for his week. He’ll be here for Crazy Days and I’m sure we will find plenty of other things to do while he is here!
Crazy Days Is Almost Here
Speaking of Crazy Days, mark your calendars for Thursday, August 6 and join the Stanley merchants for a day packed with family fun, delicious food, shopping, and exciting activities.
Current event highlights include lunch by Bravera Bank and The Title Team starting at 11:00 a.m. The SACK Program school supply giveaway will run from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the elementary school gym, or while supplies last. This is open to everyone.
Activities will include the inflatables and dunk tank in the old post office parking lot and go-karts at the elementary school from 1 to 6 p.m. BNC National Bank will be serving ice cream sundaes from 2 to 4 p.m. The Farmers Market will be relocating from the park to downtown for their weekly market.
There will be food specials, crazy days sales and fun for everyone. It’s a great time to get started on that back to school shopping and check out everything the Stanley businesses have to offer. Be sure to follow the Stanley Commercial Club’s Facebook page at visitstanley as I’m sure there will be more events added in the days leading up to the event.
School Might Be Just Around The Corner
Meanwhile, the 4th of July has come and gone. The State Fair is getting closer to wrapping up its yearly run. That can mean only one thing....school is right around the corner.
Last week, Stanley Schools posted fall sports information for students and parents. In addition to reminding students they need to have their sports physicals completed, concussion forms filled out and athletic fees paid, they were also pointing out starting dates.
Cheerleaders will have their parent meeting on July 28 and first practice on August 3. Girls golf has their first practice on August 3. Volleyball players have parents meetings on August 4 and first practices on August 17. Football parent meetings are set for August 5 with first practices on August 6. Cross Country has their first practice on August 10.
Seeing posts like that reminds me just how fast summer goes by. It feels like we just started summer break and now fall sports are starting within weeks. The first day of school is August 19 in Stanley. My grandkids start back on August 18. That just four short weeks from now.
It’s hard to believe that summer is two-thirds over. It doesn’t help that we spent most of June waiting for it warm up and feel like summer. Then July came and reminded us just how hot it can get, especially just in time for the State Fair. We’ll blink and it will be August and everyone will be getting ready for another school year. Enjoy these next few weeks as much as you can!
