Just My Opinion - by Mary Kilen

Gone This Week!
Depending on when you’re reading this, Dale and I are either on an airplane or enjoying some sun in Las Vegas. When I went to book our trip for this March, airline ticket prices almost gave me a heart attack. I haven’t looked since then because with rising fuel costs, I’m guessing they’re not any better right now. That being said, because Allegiant schedules just don’t work for us this time of year, I ended up going with United this time because they were significantly less expensive than Delta.
I also really only had two different flight times, either early in the morning or early afternoon. Dale talked me into taking the 7 a.m. flight on Wednesday to maximize our hours in Vegas. We don’t get home until midnight on Saturday for the same reason.
So, that means I’ll have spent Tuesday getting things done at the office so that we were ready to head to the airport in Minot well before the crack of dawn on Wednesday. I’m grateful that Minot’s airport is not being impacted by the backlog seen in other airports across the country with the partial government shutdown. I’ve been watching reports out of Las Vegas and it doesn’t seem like they are seeing those four+ hour waits, so I’ll remain hopeful for our trip home.
It looks like it will be hot while we are there. I’ve been watching the weather forecast on my phone and the “heat dome” over that part of the country does not seem to be lifting. Thank goodness we’ve had some nice weather here the last couple of weeks, or those 90+ degree days might have been the end of me.
The bright point is I can always find somewhere to stop for a while. It might be shopping or checking out another casino. It could be hitting the pool for a few hours.
There are no great plans right now. We do have tickets to see the Wizard of Oz at the Sphere. Dale has been wanting to check out the Sphere since it opened. I really thought about getting tickets to the Eagles, but the sticker shock hit me.
Either way, it is just about a few days away, taking some time to relax. I know it will be crazy when we get back and Monday could be a long day. I also know that Christina and Jada will do their best to limit how much is waiting for me on my desk when I get home. I’m so fortunate to be able to leave the office in their capable hands while we’re gone.
So, again, if you see me looking frazzled on Monday, bear with me. I’ll get caught up sooner or later and I certainly won’t regret taking this time to get away.
Everything I Need To Know
I often save things I see on Facebook for those days when I don’t know what to write about in my column. With getting ready to leave for Vegas, I find the brain freeze to be real today.
I saved this one a long time ago. It came from mybible.com and is called “Everything I need to know about life, I learned from Noah’s Ark.”
There are a lot of little life lessons in these eleven items. There are also some wisdoms that if we take them to heart might help us feel a little better about where we are in our lives.
1. Don’t miss the boat.
2. Remember that we are all in the same boat.
3. Plan ahead. It wasn’t raining when Noah built the ark.
4. Stay fit. When you’re really old, someone may ask you to do something really big.
5. Don’t listen to the critics, just get on with the job that needs to be done.
6. Build your future on high ground.
7. For safety’s sake, travel in pairs.
8. Speed isn’t always an advantage. The snails were on board with the cheetahs.
9. When you’re stressed, float a while.
10. Remember, the Ark was built by amateurs, the Titanic by professionals.
11. No matter the storm, when you are with God, there’s always a rainbow waiting.
