Just My Opinion by Mary Kilen
An Early Deadline Next Week
As I was finishing up the paper for this week, I found an email from Terry Froseth saying that we would need to print early next week. Our plant manager had surgery last week and has a recheck in Bismarck on Tuesday of next week. That means we will all be printing on Monday instead of Tuesday next week.
Because we will be printing on Monday, that means that our deadline for the December 17 issue will be Friday, Dec. 12, by end of day.
I’ll be working more over the weekend to make sure we can meet this deadline. We will be in the office on Monday, but we will be finishing up on Monday morning, just like we normally do on Tuesdays. There won’t be time for us to take new copy or get it in that day. That will mean if we are sent things on Monday, they will have to wait for the December 24 issue.
Normally, we try to give a little more of a heads up for our customers, but it just cannot be helped this time. We appreciate all of you trying to help us meet this early deadline next week.
Weather or Not?
As I’m writing my column this week, I’m watching the weather forecast like everyone else. It is hard to say what we will get overnight on Monday heading into Tuesday.
The last report I saw made it look like we might get lucky with this system. It looks like the worst of it will be east and south of us.
I wouldn’t mind missing out on a lot of freezing rain and ice. But they are showing that it will start raining fairly early in the morning. After Monday’s warmer temperatures, everything should be nice and polished if we do get the ice. Guess I will see what happens when I get up and head to the office on Tuesday morning.
Either way, it looks like we will continue our rollercoaster of temperatures this week. After a couple of days of nice temperatures, it looks like we’re headed for another shot of deep freeze temperatures by the end of this week. Looking at the weather app on my phone, it looks like it should only be for a couple of days. These up and down temperatures are getting the better of me. Dale and I keep trying to get outside to put up a few more Christmas decorations. The warm days seem to bring strong winds. Colder days don’t seem to have the winds, but it is hard to be outside for too long at a time.
Winter may still be more than a week away, but someone appears to have forgotten to tell Mother Nature.
Also, if you have not seen it yet, check out Chris Pulver’s video on the North Dakota Highway Patrol’s Facebook page. It is hilarious and yet has some wise wisdom for handling winter weather. Make sure you watch through the end. The bloopers might be my favorite part. Sorry, Chris! I laughed much harder than I should have at your expense. Kudos to you for giving it your all!
As I Get Older, I Realize
I found this older post in my memories a few days ago and I just couldn’t resist sharing it with you. So many of these items on this list titled “As I Get Older, I Realize” are ringing truer every year.
1. I talk to myself, because sometimes I need expert advice.
2. Sometimes I roll my eyes out loud.
3. I don’t need anger management, I need people to stop making me mad.
4. My people skills are just fine. It’s my tolerance of idiots that needs work.
5. The biggest lie I tell myself is “I don’t need to write that down, I’ll remember it.
6. When I was a child, I thought nap time was punishment. Now it’s like a mini-vacation.
7. The day the world runs out of wine is just too terrible to think about.
8. Even duct tape can’t fix stupid, but it can muffle the sound.
9. Wouldn’t it be great if we could put ourselves in the dryer for ten minutes, come out wrinkle-free and three sizes smaller.
10. “Getting Lucky” means walking into a room and remembering why I’m there.
